Chris Stapleton and Miranda Lambert teamed up for a very last minute performance of Chris Stapleton’s “Maggie’s Song” at tonight’s ACM awards in Nashville.

It was originally supposed to be a duet between Chris and his wife, Morgane, but according to People, she had a last minute “doula commitment” and had to leave minutes before the show started. Yeah, I guess you can’t really time those things.

Miranda, who opened the show with Elle King singing their song “Drunk (and I Don’t Wanna Go Home)” and is also performing with her ‘Marfa Tapes’ trio Jon Randall and Jack Ingram, stepped in to sing the background vocals.

The song is a tribute to Chris and Morgane’s dog, Maggie, who passed away recently. The song is also featured on Chris’ most recent album Starting Over.

Seeing as Miranda has an entire foundation focused on rescuing dogs and getting them adopted, MuttNation, it was a natural fit.

Check them out performing together, and grab the Kleenex.

Seriously though…
