We’re approaching 20th anniversary of Blake Shelton’s hit 2001 debut single, “Austin,” you know, back when the guy was releasing some solid country music.
Back then, a young Blake Shelton was rocking the cowboy hat, long sideburns, and a sweet mullet… he had a solid country look going, and some tunes to match.
Well, it appears the times are changing as the man has gotten older, as he reflected back on his younger days in an interview with PEOPLE. Turns out, he’s not necessarily proud of that INCREDIBLE mullet he rocked back in the day. When asked what he would tell his younger self, he said:
“I would have told that kid, ‘Hey man, the mullet’s not as cool as you think it is… and I would have told myself to get more rest back then. When I started I was 24 and lived life to the max back then. It’s probably why I ran out of battery so soon.”
Excuse me sir, I have to disagree with you there.
As a guy who has been told by multiple barbers that my hair physically can’t grow a nice mullet, I envy you big time.
I’d have to say the rest of the country music world would have to disagree with you, Mr. Shelton. Maybe he’s just starting to get a little soft in his older days. I mean, he did just release a new line of lemonade hard seltzer, and he’s also about to release a new album titled Body Language (the title is a hard “no” for me).
This sure doesn’t sound like the Blake Shelton who sang an outlaw ballad like “Ol’ Red.”
