Randy Travis & George Jones Perform Country Classics Together Way Back In 1991

When it comes to iconic country music voices, two of the names that immediately come to mind are George Jones and Randy Travis.

And back in 1991, those two iconic country voices came together and shared the stage on an episode of HBO’s Influences. The series paired two artists together to sing some songs and share some stories, and when it was George and Randy’s turn, they did not disappoint.

The two performed classics from Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzell, Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb, Red Foley, Merle Haggard and more, but more than that, George also offered up some high praise for the younger Travis.

“I was trying to what they call rehabilitate… I was about to give up, quit the business, and you came out with `On the Other Hand.` That gave me a lot of hope, and I decided to keep on…You`ve influenced more people in this business than anybody else.”

Imagine hearing one of your idols say something like that about you?

Live music (and new music) comes at premium these days, but as long as there is still footage of moments like this, we’ll all have something to hold us over until country music can get back on the road again.
