This Video Of Charlie Daniels Praying With Randy Travis Will Break Your Heart Into A Million Pieces

A man holding a man's ear

2020 has been an absolutely brutal year for country music.

First we lost Kenny Rogers back in March. Then Coronavirus claimed the lives of Joe Diffie and John Prine. And just yesterday, we lost the legendary Charlie Daniels to a hemorrhagic stroke.

When it rains it pours. And man, is it ever going to stop pouring?

Ever since the news broke of Charlie Daniels’ passing, tributes have been pouring in from across the country music world. A guy who’s been around as long as Charlie Daniels has impacted just about everybody in the industry, and it seems like there isn’t anybody who has a bad word to say about the country music legend and friend.

But it’s this tribute that Randy Travis shared to his old friend that finally broke me.

Randy Travis and Charlie Daniels were both inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016. But this isn’t the only bond the two shared. On his Facebook page, Randy tells the story of the time that Charlie had a colt that was born on Randy’s birthday – so Charlie named it after Randy. And along with the post, Randy included a video that showed the two country music legends sharing a private moment backstage, sometime after Randy suffered a debilitating stroke that has kept him from performing since 2013.

In the video, Charlie and Randy can be heard talking about how bad Randy wants to get back on stage again. And then, Charlie asks Randy if he can pray for him – before taking his hand and bowing his head to ask for God’s blessings over his friend.

Such a powerful and beautiful moment between two country music legends – but more importantly, between two friends.

Rest in Peace, Charlie.

The world is a better place because you were in it, and not just because of the music you left behind.
