“Ella Langley? What Is That?” The “Choosin’ Texas” Singer Responds To Doja Cat Claiming She Doesn’t Know Who She Is

The next “Who the f*** is Sturgill Simpson?” potentially? We need shirts…

It’s hard to argue that there’s a bigger artist, not just in the genre but music as a whole, than Ella Langley in 2026. In case you haven’t been keeping up with her and “Choosin’ Texas’” success, it just spent its 19th week at #1 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. As it stands today, “Choosin’ Texas” is the longest-running #1 hit by a female artist THIS CENTURY, the only country song by a woman to triple up and go #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, Hot Country and Country Airplay charts simultaneously and is now tied for the second-longest-running #1 EVER on the Hot 100.

In case that wasn’t enough, thanks to the success of her sophomore album, Dandelion, which debuted at #1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 and sold 169,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week, Langley became just the second woman in history to hold the #1 album and song in the U.S. simultaneously with a country song/album.

She would also capture other records on the Hot 100, such as becoming the first country artist IN HISTORY to hold the Top 2 songs in the United States simultaneously for more than one week and the first female country artist to score three of the Top 4 hits on the Hot 100 in a single week, becoming one of only nine artists in any genre to accomplish this feat.

Simply put, she has been everywhere. Whether it’s selling out arenas across the country on her own Dandelion Tour and opening up for Morgan Wallen on his potentially record-breaking Still The Problem Tour or scoring collabs with major brands such as American Eagle, Shiner Bock beer, Noyz perfume and more.

The Alabama native and “Choosin’ Texas” have gotten so big that it caught the ear of none other than Drake, who has also had himself quite the year in 2026, notably breaking Wallen’s record for most songs charted on the Billboard Hot 100 in a single week (42), shouting out Langley’s “goated pen,” before being seen jamming to the hit song at her Little Rock concert.

Though Langley has been getting love from nearly everyone lately, from Drake, the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team, Matthew McConaughey and more. With that being said, however, there’s one pop star in particular who doesn’t seem to care for the 27-year-old singer/songwriter and her mega hit: Doja Cat.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the pop singer, she’s been one of the biggest artists in her genre this decade with hits like “Say So,” “Paint the Town Red” and “Kiss Me More,” scoring a Grammy win for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for the latter track with SZA.

On an appearance on Sundae Conversation, Doja was asked if she was a fan of the “Be Her” singer. Bluntly, she’d reply:

“I don’t know what that is. Ella Langley?”

After her fans were in disbelief about the “Say So” singer not knowing who Langley, who has been the biggest artist in the country this year, is, she’d reel it back a bit. During a live stream, she’d listen to “Choosin’ Texas” for the first time, apparently.

Here, she’d say she doesn’t like the song, but understands why it’s so popular, calling it “earwormy.”

“Yeah, this is not my vibe, but she has a very pretty voice. This is #1 on the charts because are putting it on their radios and sh*t. I don’t like it, but that’s fine. It’s very earwormy; it sounds like. It’s like [a] catchy melody. I get it. And she’s pretty, I get it.”

Doja would also tell the live stream chat that she finds it hard to believe that they were so shocked about her not knowing Langley. Claiming she likes “one Keith Urban song from 2004” (“Days Go By” or “You’ll Think of Me” perhaps?), she’d explain that she simply doesn’t like country music.

“I don’t understand what’s so hard to believe about that. I never cared. I like that one Keith Urban song from 2004. I wouldn’t say that I like [Langley’s] music; she’s probably a fine lady. I don’t care for that type of s–t at all. It doesn’t inspire me, it doesn’t make me feel good.”

Well, it look like Langley caught wind of the “shade” (if you can even call it that) from Doja and took a subtle jab at her in her most recent post on Instagram.

Posting a photo dump of random moments behind the scenes on tour lately, Langley would simply caption the post:

“Ella Langley? What is that?”

Immediately picking up on the Doja Cat shade, fans immediately flooded the comments, trolling the pop star at every turn.

“Let’s ask the billboards if they know what a Doja Cat is”

“The Doja reference “

Lol Doja doesn’t really want the smoke “

“WTF is a Doja? Sounds wack af’ to me.”

“Messy with that caption. It’s what I’m here for”

“We all know… Doja just wants to Be Her. “

Doja Cat did respond once more on a different livestream about anyone sending hate towards Ella or her fans:

“If you guys are sending hate to her or her fans or whatever – that’s extremely cringe and you’re a loser. Don’t do stuff like that because it doesn’t make you cool to go and send hate to people. That’s pretty much it.”
