Taylor Swift, Eric Church & More: 20 Country Albums Turning 20 In 2026

Happy 2026, y’all.

It feels almost unfathomable that we’re already in 2026. Some days, it feels like just yesterday we watched the likes of Chris Stapleton’s iconic breakout at the 2015 CMA Awards, Zach Bryan’s rise to fame online, Morgan Wallen reach new heights after his string of controversies and a plethora of other major storylines that have dominated the genre over the past decade or so.

As we settle into 2026, it feels like country music is in its healthiest place, arguably ever. While sure, you still have a boatload of slop being played on the radio, it feels like there is truly something for everyone in the genre today. From traditional artists like Zach Top dominating, southern rock and grunge acts such as Whiskey Myers, Treaty Oak Revival and The Red Clay Strays catching fire, folk-inspired artists like Zach Bryan, Dylan Gossett and Sam Barber reaching new heights and talented women in the genre such as Ella Langley, Lainey Wilson and Megan Moroney getting the attention they deserve, country music is at its most diverse its been in years.

Given that it’s a brand-new year, there are a plethora of major anniversaries on the horizon in 2026. Last week, we took a look at 30 classic country songs turning 30 years old in 2026. And today, I thought we’d take a look at 20 albums turning 20 years old this year.

2006 was undoubtedly an interesting year in country music. It came at a unique time in the genre from a broad perspective. There’s no doubt that pop was still slowly creeping into the genre, with acts like Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban and most notably, Taylor Swift (in her debut) releasing albums throughout the year.

With that being said, you still had an interesting mix with legendary artists such as George Strait, Alan Jackson and even Johnny Cash releasing projects. Throw in the iconic debut album from Eric Church with Sinners Like Me, Dierks Bentley delivering a rock-solid junior effort on Long Trip Alone, Chris Young introducing himself (and his killer, formerly-traditioinal vocals) to the world on his self-titled debut album and Josh Turner’s Your Man, you have a whole lot to latch on to in an era where the mainstream was much more diverse sonically.

That’s not even mentioning some of the killer albums in the independent scene in 2006, which include the likes of Randy Rogers Band’s Just a Matter of Time, Shooter Jennings’ severely underrated Electric Rodeo and Cross Canadian Ragweed’s third live album, Back to Tulsa – Live and Loud at Cain’s Ballroom.

Personally, I have a lot of nostalgia for this era of country. I’m definitely showing my age here, but at 24 years old, I grew up listening to a lot of these albums in my formative years of becoming a fan of country music. Particularly, Eric Church’s Sinners Like Me, Josh Turner’s Your Man and Rodney Atkins’ If You’re Going Through Hell were some of the first albums I vividly remember listening to.

Personal anecdote aside, here are 20 major country albums turning 20 years old in 2026.
