Nothing like getting an accidental, impromptu front row seat to one of the best boxing matches of all time.
To preface, I know that roos aren’t exactly harmless. There have been plenty of videos come to my attention of the hopping-mad animals putting the hurt on people. On the other hand though, I’d argue that there’s not a more unique and entertaining creature on the planet, and that’s why I wouldn’t mind seeing one out in the wild from time to time.
One of the more common places to see a roo out in the wild is Australia. They actually outnumber the people in the “Land Down Under” with an estimated population of over 50 million. Another place that kangaroos are thriving? That’d be New South Wales, where over 12 million roos hop around freely.
We got to see two of those in action in this video out of Dungog, New South Wales.
A man named Gabriel Robinson was just minding his business when he heard some noise and clattering outside of the home he was in. Naturally, he went out to see what was causing all of the racket, and was very much surprised to find two kangaroos beating the hell out of each other.
Don’t worry… the long-tailed mammals often fight one another, and it usually has to do with claiming territory or trying to impress a mate. These roos were boxing in what looks like either the front or back yard of this New South Wales home, and you know what my take away from that is? FREE ENTERTAINMENT. You’ve usually got to pay to see something like this, and these kangaroos decided to put on a show free of charge.
To be honest, I’m jealous that kangaroos don’t roam free in the United States. I’d love to see some wild animals throwing hands on my property. I’ve never seen two raccoons or a pair of possums going multiple rounds, which is a real shame. Our country’s non-bothersome wild animals should take notes on this front yard kangaroo throw down. If you are going through my garbage, the least you could do is make it entertaining.
That being said, even Robinson tried to break up the face off with a little:
“Boys, boys.”
And this battle had everything you could want: combo moves, flying kicks (I LOVE the roo two-legged front kicks), devastating jabs, body slams, damaged landscaping, and longevity. These two kangaroos fought for almost two straight minutes (probably even longer, that’s just what we saw on camera), and definitely “didn’t hear no bell.”
Eventually, after trading blows and dancing around for quite some time, the roos decided to take a break in the action and trotted away and out of frame. Hilariously, Gabriel Robinson moved around the camera on his phone after the kangaroos left as if to say, “Did that just happen?”
It sure did, and we all have Robinson to thank for capturing the footage and sharing it to the internet for all of us to enjoy. Check it out:
