Her highest charting debut yet.

Today, Megan Moroney’s newest single “6 Months Later” debuted at #30 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart (which encompasses all musical genres), making it the highest debut of her career thus far.

Her first hit “Tennessee Orange” eventually reached the #30 on that chart as well, which ties for the highest-charting song of her career, though it’s likely “6 Months Later” is going to continue to head towards the top of the Hot 100 and will likely peak much higher once it’s all said and done.

Released about a week ago, “6 Months Later” is a total summer jam, which has an extremely catchy melody and all-too-relatable lyrics that finds her detailing how a relationship went sideways… though the guy keeps popping back up every now and then when she’s just about over it… classic.

Written by Moroney with Ben Williams, David “Messy” Mescon, and Rob Hatch, like many of her songs, “6 Months Later” focuses on heartbreak and how she’s coping in the wake of a breakup, and obviously I’m biased, but her lines in the bridge about how she only got stronger, blonder and hotter go so hard:

“What doesn’t kill you
Makes you stronger and blonder and hotter
Makes you wonder what you even saw in him at all
What doesn’t kill you always calls
(Oh, sorry, I think you have the wrong number?)

With a ‘Hey Meg, I think I want you back
I’m a couple drinks in thinkin’ it’s my bad
That I let you walk away and let you go
It’s the tale as old as time, I guess
When you couldn’t care more, I couldn’t care less
You’re a little too late to the party, heartbreaker
What doesn’t kill you calls you six months later”

She’s been teasing this single for a while now on her social media accounts and fans were already loving it, so this will likely set her up for a big lead-up into MM3, which appears will have a new signature color and be purple coded and very pastel.

Clearly, the single is off to a hot start, and she’s certainly setting herself up for a huge year when the new record is finally released. I’m not surprised to see it’s already charting so well, because I can’t get it out of my head and I don’t think anyone else can either…

“6 Months Later”

While Megan has yet to officially announce her third album, she recently talked about how it’s 80% done, and her producer has made similar comments recently, and it will be much more “light and carefree and happy” than her previous two projects:

“I’m always writing. I mean, I would say that my next album is probably like 80% written.

I just try to live my life and write about it. So that’s kind of how this next album is shaping up, too. Just like the last ones — I was writing about my life experiences. So the strategy behind it hasn’t changed. It’s still the same.”

She also recently celebrated her second #1 single as “Am I Okay?” topped the country radio charts a couple weeks ago, and it’s promising to be another huge summer for the country star who is currently out on a headlining tour. I’d venture to guess “6 Months Later” will be her next big country radio hit not too long from now…
