An even more dangerous Beth Dutton in Dutton Ranch? Hundreds of thousands of Yellowstone fans just leaned in.
The wait is finally over. The highly anticipated Yellowstone spinoff starring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser is here. Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler are back in a show that has been described as “Yellowstone Season 6.” Reilly, Hauser and Finn Little are all reprising their roles.
As for the rest of the cast, Annette Bening is set to play a powerful owner of a major Texas ranch named Beulah Jackson. Ed Harris will be playing the role of Everett McKinney, who is described as a kind-hearted veteran who has hung up his guns for a more peaceful life. Australian actor Jai Courtney and country music singer Morgan Wade have also been announced as a part of the cast.
The show sees Beth and Rip move to Texas to try to get away from their Yellowstone lives and find peace. The finding peace thing evidently doesn’t last long for the pair, and Dutton Ranch director and executive producer Christina Alexandra Voros told Page Six that will force Beth Dutton’s hand:
“We’re going to see an evolution (of Beth) from the version that we were so familiar with in ‘Yellowstone’ to something that is perhaps a little bit more mature. Perhaps a little more dangerous. It’s a natural progression.”
A more dangerous Beth Dutton? Say less.
Christina Alexandra Voros, who has actually taken over as the showrunner after the departure of Chad Feehan three weeks ago, also gave some insight into how Beth and Rip’s relationship will handle their new challenges. She says that everything that happens in Dutton Ranch will lead both characters to mature more and more:
“Rip and Beth are in new lands, without their allies. (I know fans) love vintage Rip and Beth. It was really interesting to watch both of them enter a slightly more mature era, but you also get a sense that there might still be something boiling under the surface. You really see these two people who have fought so hard to try to finally have peace. And no matter how badly they want it, war keeps coming to their doorstep.”
As war continues to find Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, viewers will continue to tune in to see how they handle it.
Early reviews suggest that Dutton Ranch is one of the best spinoffs underneath the Yellowstone umbrella (it’s actually rated a touch higher by critics on Rotten Tomatoes). And in no surprise at all, Taylor Sheridan and the show’s music supervisor, Andrea von Foerster, have continued to make country music one of the main characters of the series.
The first two episodes – “The Untold Want” and “Earn Another Day” – are now available to stream on Paramount+. They’ll also be airing on the Paramount Network at 8 p.m. ET/PT, with weekly episodes following through July 3rd.
