Officer Who Arrested Scottie Scheffler Finally Addresses His $80 Pants: “Most Famous Pants In The World”

The charges may be dismissed, but the big question remains: What about the $80 pants?

Prosecutors today dismissed all of the charges against Scottie Scheffler after the world #1 golfer was arrested earlier this month during a bizarre traffic incident at the PGA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky.

Scheffler was originally charged with felony with felony second-degree assault of a police officer, as well as three misdemeanors: Third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals.

According to the police report filed by Louisville Metro Police Department detective Bryan Gillis:

“Detective Gillis was directing traffic into Gate 1 of the Valhalla Golf Course due to the road being closed in both directions from an earlier fatal collision. Listed subject was driving eastbound to gain access to the course. Subject pulled into the westbound lanes, where outbound traffic was flowing and to avoid backed up traffic. Detective Gillis was in the middle of the westbound lanes, in full LMPD uniform and a hi-visibility yellow reflective rain jacket.

Detective Gillis stopped subject and attempted to give instructions. Subject refused to comply and accelerated forward, dragging Detective Gillis to the ground. Detective Gillis suffered pain, swelling, and abrasions to his left wrist and knee. He was transported to the hospital for further medical treatment by emergency medical personnel.

Detective Gillis’ uniform pants, valued at approximately $80 were damaged beyond repair.”

Of course, it was that last line of the police report that got the most attention, and spawned countless memes about the infamous pants, especially after video appeared to contradict the claims from Gillis that he was “dragged” by Scheffler.

We never saw any pictures of the damage to the pants, but after the charges were dismissed, we finally got a statement from Gillis on the incident – and honestly, you can read it if you want, but that’s not what we’re here to talk about because he added a hilarious “P.S.” to address the now-famous uniform:

“Yes, the department has us buying freaking $80 pants. To those concerned, they were indeed ruined. But Scottie, it’s all good. I never would’ve guessed I’d have the most famous pair of pants in the country for a few weeks because of this. Take care and be safe.”

Ok, that’s pretty funny.

Scheffler’s attorney, Steven Romines, also addressed the pants at his press conference today after the charges were dismissed, confirming that the golfer would indeed not be buying Gillis a new pair of pants.
