Cole Hauser Says Kelly Reilly Received Death Threats From Obsessed Fans In Love With Rip Wheeler

Yellowstone is the biggest thing on television.

Aside from NFL Football, Yellowstone was the most-watched cable show on television last year, beating out TV series powerhouses like This Is Us and NCIS.

And naturally, with all of that added exposure and fandom, it gets a little harder to be a regular person. Granted Kevin Costner was always a superstar, and Cole Hauser has quite the resume himself, but everyone saw their popularity shoot through the roof.

But unfortunately, some fans take it a little too far.

In a recent sit down with The Hollywood Reporter’s Scott Feinberg, Luke Grimes (Kayce Dutton), Kelsey Asbille (Monica), Kevin Costner (John Dutton), Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton), and Cole Hauser (Rip) explained what it has been like being on the most popular show in the world.

And for Kelly Reilly, the Rip Wheeler envy is REAL.

Cole Hauser said that Kelly has received death threats from Rip Wheeler-obsessed fans:

“She used to get death threats… I’m being serious, she’s told me a few times… I was like, ‘that’s insane.’

I’ve run into women who have tattoos of my name on them, babies that are named Rip, I mean… it’s pretty wild.

But ultimately, you get into this business and you hope for a couple great roles in your lifetime. And to be able to affect people in the way this character has and the writing that Taylor… the different colors that he’s laid out for him. It’s a real honor to have people come up and love something that you do.

Whether they connect to the serious intensity side, the loving side with her (Beth) the loyalty that I have with him (John Dutton), it’s an honor… so I’m very blessed that way.”

I mean, it’s a TV show… get a grip people.

Yellowstone Season 5 is officially set to premiere on Paramount Network this coming fall, on November 13th, with the recently renamed 1923 coming December.

And it was also recently announced that the upcoming Four Sixes Ranch spinoff series, 6666will also air on Paramount Network (rather than the streaming service Paramount+), so we could likely see that show coming soon as well.

A lot to be excited about in the Taylor Sheridan universe… stay tuned:

Cole Hauser On Rip & Beth’s Sex Scene

It’s no secret that Yellowstone is the biggest show on television at the moment.

With the conclusion on Season 4, the announcement of the two-part Season 5, not to mention 1883, the next chapter in the upcoming 1923, the Four Sixes spinoff that’s also in the works, Yellowstone fans have a lot to look forward to.

And needless to say, Taylor Sheridan is unquestionably the busiest man in the business right now. I mean, did Paramount just give him half a million bucks, lock him in a room with a pencil and make him crank out scripts?

Whatever they’re doing… it’s working.

But perhaps one of the most interesting parts of Yellowstone is the variety of characters.

Some people think Kevin Costner’s character, John Dutton, the patriarch Dutton of the family, is the main and/or best character. Some love Beth. Some hate Beth. Some fans love Jimmy’s story and others think we’re getting way too much Jimmy.

Monica has her fair share of hate lately, and Kayce is every girl’s dream, but then you have Ryan Bingham’s character Walker, Wes Bentley’s weasel of a character with Jamie Dutton, and a ton more.

Everybody brings something different to the table and there are a number of different reasons to love or hate many of them. Maybe both…

However, one thing that we can all pretty much agree on is that Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly’s portrayals of Rip and Beth are incredible.

And according to Cole himself, in an interview with Vanity Fair, it’s all about their natural chemistry:

“We were just very free together. You know, it’s rare that you find an actress, and she’s commented about it too in interviews, where I’m free to do as I please, and she follows my lead sometimes, and sometimes it’s vice versa and I’ll follow hers.

It’s a very unselfish relationship where we both just love working together.”

And while Rip and Beth might, in a way, be the stars of Yellowstone, it wasn’t necessarily drawn up that way. Rip & Beth’s love story was never supposed to be a main storyline in the show.

There was one steamy scene in particular, in the very first episode, that made creator Taylor Sheridan take their characters in a new direction… give them more of the spotlight.

And of all places… it happened in the bedroom:

“Initially there was a scene where we were having sex in her bedroom on the dresser, and she slaps me, and the way I reacted.

I remember walking out of that scene and everybody was just kind of glued to the monitors, and I saw John and Taylor and the producers and the D.P. and so on. And I looked at them and they just all looked up, like, a ‘Wow, that was amazing’ kind of feeling.

From that point on, he started really penning it more and really giving us more to do and giving us more opportunity. And then also pushing us and making us take risks together. And I think that’s how it’s become what it has.”

All it takes is one scene, one performance… and boom.

Here’s the scene that changed everything:

Summer & John “Turn Up The Heat” In Yellowstone Season 5

Rip and Beth aren’t the only ones getting busy in the bedroom…

One of the more interesting plotlines of Yellowstone Season 4 was the introduction of Piper Perabo’s character Summer Higgins.

An environmental activist (grass-eating hippie) from Portland, Summer’s character first appears on the scene in Season 4, protesting against industrialized farming in Montana.

Kayce shows up and they end up hauling her ass to jail, but not before John drops a little knowledge about the cost of farming on ass:

But then, John bails her out of jail, shows her how they do things at his ranch, and also shows her how he does things in his bedroom.

Which leads to this awkward and violent confrontation with Beth the next morning:

(Remember, Beth also told her dad he needed to get laid…)

Unfortunately, Beth’s animosity towards Summer didn’t end at the breakfast table and she later on set her up to get arrested protesting against Market Equities.

Well, see what that means for Beth’s corporate espionage accusation in Season 5, but it also means that Summer got put in the slammer, and even John couldn’t make this go away.

She got slapped with 15 years at the end of Season 4…

We know that Piper will definitely be in Season 5, so anybody that thought she was gonna ride off into a jail cell, guess again. I suppose John Dutton is gonna find a way to get her out because, well… he’s John Dutton.

Also, because Piper Perabo said so…

At the PEOPLE & Entertainment Weekly Red Carpet Live: 28th Annual SAG Awards pre-show she mentioned that her and John’s relationship is going to pick up some steam in the next season.

“The love story is kicking into gear on ‘Yellowstone.’

I know a lot of people watch it for the cowboys and the ranch, but I watch it for the love story.

We’re turning up the heat. It’s been a hard couple of years, let’s turn up the heat for a minute.”

Stay tuned… looks like John is gonna be getting some loving next season.

Yellowstone Season 5 already has the green light, with filming to begin in May, and should see a premiere date somewhere in the fall. But… it was announced that Season 5 would be split into two parts, expanded into 7 episodes each, and… here’s the kicker… the season would be used to ” launch several new streaming shows from Taylor Sheridan.”
