Jon Pardi’s “Nobody Leaves A Girl Like That” Is A Modern-Day “Nobody In His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her”

Remember that one time Jon Pardi covered the hell out of George Strait’s “Nobody in His Right Mind Would Have Left Her”?

I mean, who could forget that? While he might not be King George, Pardi definitely knows his way around a Strait song… probably as well as anybody in the game.

Flash forward about three years later and Jon Pardi releases “Nobody Leaves A Girl Like That.”

Written by Bart Butler, Marv Green and Jimmy Yeary, the cut from Pardi’s Heartache Medication album has a lot of similarities to the 1986 hit. Fun fact: It was actually written and performed by Dean Dillion earlier in the ’80s, before George Strait.

Ironic, though, that “Nobody Leaves a Girl Like That” fell into Jon Pardi’s graces after his Strait cover? * wink, wink * Irony aside, he was the perfect fit for a twinning song of “Nobody in His Right Mind Would Have Left Her.”

Looking at the song titles, right off the bat, you can see the similarities. Granted, Pardi’s song has a little bit more of an upbeat tempo. Both tell the story of a man’s regret of leaving a knockout of a woman, in all aspects. The resemblance in lyrics are even uncanny. If you are somehow not familiar with the George Strait classic or Jon Pardi’s song, can you tell the difference?

Pardi: “I was stubborn and she was cryin’. Well, she knew she couldn’t stop me but she kept right on tryin’.”

Strait: “She cried when I left her, now I cry to forget her. Oh, how foolish I was to ever want to leave.”

Pardi: “She’s the kind of girl that only comes around once. Well she found somebody new and I’m goin’ crazy because nobody leaves a girl like that.”

Strait: “‘Cause nobody in his right mind would’ve left her. I had to be crazy to say goodbye.”

Not saying this is a bad thing at all. I’ll take the similarities all day, every day. I don’t think anyone is complaining. If we are gifted with more new county songs like we were with the back in the day classics…. I say, hell yeah, bring it on.

Listen for yourself and decide….
