Brand new from Megan Moroney.
Titled “Say When,” the song was released for the soundtrack for the new season of Nobody Wants This. The popular Netflix series, starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, is a romantic comedy that follows the complicated relationship between Joanne, a fiercely independent dating podcaster, and Noah, a charming and newly single Jewish rabbi.
I have yet to watch it, but I know they’ve had some other great country music artists on the soundtrack for previous seasons (Kacey Musgraves and Ella Langley were featured on last seasons’ soundtrack), and the producers clearly have great taste in today’s current country stars.
Megan wrote this original song specifically for the TV show, and it sounds a bit different than what we’re used to hearing from her. It’s fun to hear a new side of her, and of course, writing for a show is much different than her usual writing which is for herself and her fans.
Moroney wrote “Say When” with Jessie Jo Dillon and Luke Laird, and she says that she knew right away she wanted to write it with them, saying it was a “fun challenge” to write about “something fictional” rather than her own real life experiences:
“When I first saw the scene, I knew I wanted to write it with Jessie Jo Dillon and Luke Laird. It’s always fun to challenge myself to write about something fictional rather than my own life.”
This season’s album features 16 previously unreleased singles from artists including Miley Cyrus, Ellie Goulding, Ravyn Lenae, Metric, Bella Kay and a duet from other country artists Bailey Zimmerman and Stella Lefty.
“Say When” finds Moroney waiting for the green light to take the relationship one step further:

Megan has had a busy year, from releasing her Cloud 9 album, going on an extensive tour, and more recently, performing at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. She’s said in a few interviews recently that she hasn’t started writing for a new album yet, but I’m sure fans will be happy to know she’s still putting music out.
