“If There Was A Flashback, I’d Rather It Be With Monica” — Luke Grimes Doesn’t Think A Kevin Costner Appearance On ‘Marshals’ Will Ever Happen

Maybe we’ll at least get to see Monica at some point.

Season 2 of Marshals aired this past Sunday, October 4th, and it stars former Yellowstone favorite Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton once again, but now he’s part of an elite unit of the U.S. Marshals protecting Montana.

There’s tons of action, it’s a much different show than the original Yellowstone series, but there are a few familiar faces on this series in Thomas Rainwater, Mo and Tate Dutton, but Grimes has said several times he’d love to have a Dutton Ranch-Marshals crossover with his on-screen sister in Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and brother-in-law, Rip (Cole Hauser).

It remains to be seen if that will happen, Grimes has also made comments about getting country stars on like Chris Stapleton or Ella Langley, after Riley Green made a four-episode appearance last season, but it doesn’t sound like we’ll ever see patriarch Kevin Costner, who played his dad John Dutton, on any of the Yellowstone-spinoff series.

During an interview with USA Today, Grimes opened up on that possibility, and it doesn’t sound very likely. Of course, John Dutton was a sixth-generation rancher who owns and operates the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch in Montana, and his children, Jamie, Beth and Kayce, are all an integral part of the operation. From there, things get wild, but that’s the premise of how the show started out.

Fans know that the show didn’t end on a great note after Costner left due to scheduling conflicts, and creative disagreements, so spoiler alert, they had to just kill him off in the last season so they could wrap everything up.

Grimes says he hasn’t spoken to Kevin since they stopped workin together as they’re both busy and life goes on, and while he thinks it would be cool to get Costner back to do Marshals he doubts that would ever happen:

“I’ve never spoken to Kevin since we stopped working together. Not for any other reason than just, we’re both busy guys and life moves on. But I mean, I think it would be cool. I doubt that will happen at this point.”

He would love to get Monica (Kelsey Asbille) back if they did a flashback, because it would make a lot more sense for this show and where his character is at. He admitted there’s been “no conversation” about it yet, but he loves working with Kelsey and would love to make that part of the show:

“If there was a flashback, I’d probably rather it be with Monica than John, I think that would be more poignant to the character, but we’ll see. There’s been no conversation, but I sure would love it, I love working with her.”

I totally agree, I think it would make a lot more sense to have Monica in a flashback than John, and let’s be real, I highly doubt Costner would come back for that anyways.

But I do think, at some point, we’ll get to see Beth or Rip for sure, which will definitely be a full-circle moment and something I know fans would love:
