Could Luke Grimes convince the great Chris Stapleton to do a villainous arc on Marshals?
The Taylor Sheridan Universe has always been welcoming to country stars. Lainey Wilson, Ryan Bingham, Tim McGraw, and Faith Hill, among others, have all starred in shows underneath the Yellowstone umbrella. There’s just something about the talented men and women in the country genre that make switching over to acting look easy.
And with Luke Grimes leading Marshals, he’s got a big time country music artist in mind that he hopes will eventually join the list of country-artists-turned-actors and star in his CBS series.
Marshals already brought Riley Green into Season 1 for a brief – and rather impressive – arc. Green, like the many country artists to try out acting before him, held his own. And he very well could have laid the groundwork for another, well-known artist to join the ranks of Marshals. That is… if he is interested in doing so.
During a recent interview with Woman’s World, the Yellowstone and Marshals star discussed how special it’s been to share the screen with fellow country stars. That’s when he was asked who he’d love to bring into the world of Marshals. Grimes was armed and ready with an answer that would admittedly get any country music fan fired up:
“I always said I thought Chris Stapleton would play a really good bad guy. If he reads or hears this, we’d love for you to come on the show.”
Could you imagine Chris Stapleton strolling into town (possibly on horseback) with his big beard and cowboy hat? I certainly can… and I don’t think Grimes would throw the idea out there without seeing some things from the 12-time Grammy award winner. There must be something there.
He also mentioned that he’d love to have Ella Langley – who he costarred with in the “Choosin’ Texas” music video – on Marshals. She’s probably one of the busiest and most sought after artists on the planet right now, but maybe she’d entertain returning the favor and dropping into the CBS drama.
Interestingly enough, Stapleton has actually already played a bad guy on TV before… albeit in an uncredited cameo on the uberly successful HBO series Game of Thrones in 2019. He could certainly build off of that and take up Grimes and Marshals on their offer. Lord knows I’d love to see the “White Horse” singer put on the villain mask and make life harder for the chaos magnet that is Kayce Dutton.
Obviously, it’s not going to happens on this season of Marshals, which has already shot the entirety of Season 2 and is set to start airing episodes on Sunday, October 4. That being said, the second season might not be entirely absent of exciting cameos. There’s been a lot of speculation that the Dutton Ranch-Marshals crossover could finally happen. Grimes even said recently it was necessary for the characters of both shows to come together.
