It’s hard to argue that there’s a bigger artist, not just in the genre but music as a whole, than Ella Langley in 2026. In case you haven’t been keeping up with her and “Choosin’ Texas’” success, it just spent its 21st week at #1 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. As it stands today, “Choosin’ Texas” is the longest-running #1 hit by a female country artist on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, the only country song by a woman to triple up and go #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, Hot Country and Country Airplay charts simultaneously and now stands alone as the second-longest-running hit in U.S. HISTORY.
In case that wasn’t enough, thanks to the success of her sophomore album, Dandelion, which debuted at #1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 and sold 169,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week, Langley became just the second woman in history to hold the #1 album and song in the U.S. simultaneously with a country song/album. Of course, Taylor Swift was the first, going #1 with Red (Taylor’s Version) and “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” back in 2021.
She’d make even more history back on May 18th when “Choosin’ Texas” spent its 10th week at #1 on the Hot 100 and “Be Her” held strong at #2 for a second straight week. In turn, she became the first country artist in history to hold the Top 2 songs in the United States simultaneously for more than one week. This broke her out a tie with Morgan Wallen, who became the first country artist to do so upon the release of I’m The Problem last May, when he owned the top three songs with “What I Want,” “Just in Case” and “I’m the Problem.”
The last month has been particularly historic for Langley and the smash hit. With “Choosin’ Texas” spending its 15th and 16th weeks at #1, it became the longest-running #1 hit by a female artist this CENTURY. In case that wasn’t enough, she helped the genre make history when only country songs made up the Top 5 on the Hot 100 last week, including the likes of Morgan Wallen’s brand-new single, “Been By Now,” Taylor Swift’s return to country music, “I Knew It, I Knew You,” from Toy Story 5, Langley and Wallen’s collaboration, “I Can’t Love You Anymore” and Stella Lefty’s controversial viral hit, “Boston.”
After becoming the second song in American history to notch 20 weeks at #1 and grabbing an incredibly rare all-genre #1 across the pond in the U.K., this week, Choosin’ Texas” remained at #1 for its 21st frame, garnering 24.5 million official streams, 58.1 million airplays on radio and 7,000 units sold.
With this, she is now one week away from tying Mariah Carey’s long-standing record with “All I Want For Christmas Is You” at 22 weeks.
Per usual, Langley continues to dominate other Billboard charts as well. This week, the track also topped Songs of the Summer (14th week), Streaming Songs (21st week) and Hot Country Songs (39th week), which keeps extending its record for the third-longest in its history.
“Choosin’ Texas'” 21st week on the Streaming Songs chart is particularly notable. With 21 weeks, it’s broken out of a tie with Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” for the second-longest-running hit on the chart. Unsurprisingly, it puts her behind Carrey’s record of 26.
As of Monday morning, “Choosin’ Texas” is projected to score its 22nd frame at #1 next week by 95 points, which will tie Carey’s record. In case that wasn’t enough, some chart forecasters on X (formerly Twitter), such as Talk of the Charts, project the track may hit as many as 26 weeks atop the Hot 100. Simply put, it’s seemingly pretty inevitable that “Choosin’ Texas” will become the biggest hit in American history in just two short weeks (and beyond).
