In a somewhat surprising revelation – considering all the drama that’s surrounded the series – Mobland is being renewed for a third season.
It wasn’t long ago that the crime drama looked to be on death’s door after Variety reported that Tom Hardy had been fired from the show. Rumors had been swirling online indicating that the show’s star could be fired because of onset tension, but many found it hard to believe.
Even if there was tension between Hardy – who plays fixer Harry Da Souza – and those that worked on MobLand… how could the show go on without him? That’s what everyone was asking when it became widely reported that Tom Hardy got the axe just after Season 2 wrapped production.
There was even a short time where some guessed that Mobland would end with its second season.
But that would have been surprising, considering the series has been a monster hit for Paramount+ (it was the second most watched show on the streaming service when it dropped last year). Because of that, many on the flip side expected that a Season 3 would be a shoo-in. Admittedly, that outlook became murkier when Tom Hardy wasn’t going to be a part of the series anymore.
However, the minds behind Mobland quickly tried to clear up the controversy, and put out a statement not long after the rumors of Hardy’s firing emerged online. They calmed the nerves and concerns of the fans by reporting that Tom Hardy was not fired from the show, and that Season 3 was still very much on the table:
“Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for Season 3 and things are being worked through creatively.”
And now, we’re learning that the door for Season 3 is very much open.
Cooler heads prevailed, and Mobland and Paramount+ happily announced today that the crime drama has been renewed for a third season. The bigger part of the news? Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan and Tom Hardy are all returning. There was never much doubt that the first two names would come back… but having Hardy as a part of this announcement is confirmation that he’s actually going to return as Harry Da Souza beyond Season 2:
“You haven’t seen the last of them.”
Tom Hardy is BACK… even though I guess he technically never left? Despite it seeming like he did?
Regardless, it’s great news for fans of Mobland. And this renewal comes before Season 2 has even hit the streaming service. It’s set to premiere on September 18, and will feature 10 episodes. If you do the math, that means a new episode will drop every Friday from the middle of September all the way to the season finale on November 2o.
Not long ago, fans thought Season 2 might be all she wrote for Mobland. But now, fans can watch the second season play out with a little less tension, knowing that Mobland will continue with Season 3, and Tom Hardy will be there for it. Seems like as good a time as any to cue up some of Hardy’s best moments from the series, eh?
