They were soulmates.
It’s been a little over two month now since NASCAR legend Kyle Busch sadly passed away at the age of 41, on May 21st, 2026, due to pneumonia that progressed into sepsis. It was very sudden, and he left behind his wife, Samantha, and two children, Brexton (11) and Lennix (4), as well as his parents and fellow race car driver in his brother, Kurt Busch.
It’s just so incredibly sad, and my thoughts and prayers continue to go out to his family who have experienced such a devastating tragedy. Samantha has shared several posts since his passing, mostly thanking fans for all of their support:
And she has been sharing updates on her life without Kyle, which have all been heartbreaking, especially the ones about her kids, but this is equally as sad. With the Cup Series racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this past weekend for the Brickyard 400, it brought back a lot of memories and emotions for Samantha, which is where she and Kyle met back in 2007.
Samantha was in college at the time, working as a promotional model for Chevy, and Kyle spotted her from afar and had his PR representative invite her for a pace car ride, which eventually led to them meeting. The rest, as they say, is history, and Samantha shared a beautiful post about that special day.
Samantha recalled how the Indy race always marked an important time throughout their relationship, and they always found little ways to celebrate. She shared some sweet photos from 2007, where she explained how she sees “two kids completely caught up in the excitement of falling in love, with absolutely no idea what was ahead of us.”
Samantha added that she “never could have imagined” that a chance meeting at the track would turn into the love of her life, her best friend, the father of her children and nearly 20 years together.
They built a life together, went through a lot, and she says “that ild love never faded.” Samantha says she only wishes she could go back and tell that 21-year-old girl to “soak up every single second,” adding that “she never could have imagined how beautiful our life would become, or that one day she’d be wishing for just one more day with you.”

“This past weekend was the Indianapolis race, and with it came a flood of emotions. It’s where Kyle and I met, where our story began, and every year when Indy rolled around we celebrated it in our own special little way. Sometimes it was a nice dinner, other years we’d walk the track together, reminiscing about those two kids who met there all those years ago.
These photos were taken later that year in 2007, and looking at them now, I see two kids completely caught up in the excitement of falling in love, with absolutely no idea what was ahead of us. I was still in college. I never could have imagined that one chance meeting at the track with a cute, kind of shy boy would turn into the love of my life, my best friend, the father of my children, and almost twenty years of memories together.
We grew up together. We built a life together. Through every season, every challenge, and every dream, we just kept choosing each other. And somehow, through all those years, that wild love never faded.
I look at these pictures and wish I could tell that 21-year-old girl to soak up every single second. She never could have imagined how beautiful our life would become, or that one day she’d be wishing for just one more day with you. I’ll love you forever.”

The family has already held a private funeral service for Kyle, and NASCAR recently announced a public celebration for Kyle at Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 9th. It will take place on October 9th. Kyle was the all-time wins leader in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, holding an unmatched 67 career victories, so that is definitely a fitting time to do it.
This is a great chance for fans to attend the free memorial and pay their respects to one of the greatest drivers to ever do it. The NASCAR Cup Series Bank of America 400 is set for Sunday, October 11th, so there will likely be tons of fans in the Charlotte-area for the race weekend, and I have to imagine there will be a packed out for the fans to pay proper final tribute to the legend:
