Take a listen to any song from Conway Twitty’s catalogue and it’s easy to hear that the late country star certainly had a way with the women.
From songs like “You’ve Never Been This Far Before” to “I See The Want In Your Eyes,” Twitty often didn’t leave much to the imagination. Ol’ Conway was throwing dirty lyrics out there way before the era we are in now, where modern artists (mostly outside of country) put together songs that end up being NSFW.
I’m sure Conway would be a big fan of some of them.
On the latest episode of Tracy Lawrence’s podcast – TL’s Road House – he and Jamey Johnson got to talking about some of their connections to the country icons of yesteryear. Lawrence discussed how George Jones was a bit of a mentor to him, and Johnson described how became close with the family of Waylon Jennings (and now owns two of his cars).
When the name Conway got thrown out there, neither of them had ever gotten the chance to meet him before he passed… but both still had plenty to say about the country singer. Tracy got things started by shouting out the strange obsession Twitty had with a peculiar, now defunct car brand:
“I heard that Conway had an AMC Spirit fetish. He had like 6 or 8 of these little cars. Little bubble back AMC cars… they don’t even make them anymore. But he had one of every color, and he’d drive a different one every day. That was kind of a weird thing that he had.”
And that wasn’t the only weird thing he had.
Right after Lawrence wrapped up his AMC anecdote, Jamey Johnson quickly fired out a hilarious line about Conway’s unique look and style, and how it still somehow worked when it came to getting the ladies:
“Any man that can turn women on wearing tube socks and a perm, that’s a man.”
Funny that Waylon came up in the conversation too, because Jennings once said that Conway Twitty shows often had audiences full of ugly women. His words, not ours.
Piggybacking off that, Lawrence rightfully brought up how Twitty’s songs were… well, there’s no other way to put this: Horny. Like many classic country fans, Tracy says he loves to go back and revisit Conway Twitty’s catalogue from time to time. And everytime he does, he can’t believe how forward some of the lyrics are:
“I love to go back and listen to those old Conway songs. Conway was nasty. Oh, he was just nasty. He would Barry White your ass in a heartbeat.”
Yep, that’s been confirmed by our power ranking of sorts, where we broke down some of Conway Twitty’s most emotional and sexual songs and crowned him the “King of Horny Country Songs.” Go ahead and try to find someone more horny than Conway… we’ll wait.
It was great to hear the two country stars cutting it up about Conway, and you can hear more from Jamey Johnson and Tracy Lawrence in the latest episode of TL’s Road House:
