You best believe that Eric Church keeps a close eye on his fans.
The country music superstar recently sat down on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast to talk about his career, why he wears sunglasses on stage, being fired from the Rascal Flatts tour, and a whole lot more. If you’ve followed Eric Church for a long time… he kind of brought out the “greatest hits” in this interview, as far as his stories go.
In addition to announcing a book that was inspired by his recent, viral commencement speech, Church got to talk a lot about the love and appreciation he has for his fans. The “Church Choir” is as loyal of a fan group as they come, and one fan sent in a question for the Bussin’ With The Boys hosts Taylor Lewan and Will Compton to ask Eric Church.
It went like this:
“He has such a loyal fan base, many of them travel to multiple shows in different cities and even states… myself included! Does he ever recognize people in the crowd? Are the fans “seen” or do shows tend to blur together? I know he appreciates his fans, but just curious how he sees us.”
Eric Church was happy to share that he does, in fact, recognize his fans.
The ones that really stand out to the “Springsteen” singer are the ones that have been there for him since the very beginning. Church says he remembers the small number of people that appreciated his talent early on, and he’s always overjoyed to see their faces again:
“I recognize a lot of them, over the years. A lot of them… there are some that are still with us from when there were still 10 people (in the crowd) in Amarillo. There weren’t 10 people in Amarillo, there were like 4. But along the shows, you know, I recognize a lot of fans.”
And now that Eric Church has been in the spotlight and touring for over two decades, the country singer says that the most rewarding part of recognizing fans in the present day is seeing those day-one followers bringing their kids, and even their grandkids, to his shows:
“The best thing now, for me, is the ones that were there that were younger at that time… they now have kids, and some of them are older kids, and they’ll bring them to the shows. I actually now have the generation where some of them, the kids have had young kids.
So it’s two generations (of fans) now that have grandkids. They were with me when we started 20 some years ago. So it’s interesting to see those people now. The generational stuff, which I love… watching the generations.”
That’s obviously one of those things that can make you step back and go, “Wow, time is flying.” But all in all, Eric Church sees generations of fans attending his concerts as a blessing.
