I feel like they’re playing fast and loose with the term “southern hospitality” after that…
Over the weekend, Whiskey Myers and The Black Crowes played a show in Tampa, Florida at MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre during a stop on their co-headlining Southern Hospitality tour.
But at some point during the show, right before The Black Crowes started playing the fan-favorite “She Talks to Angels,” a visual came on a screen that showed the band’s Black Crowe character dressed as Uncle Sam, and the audience started to chant “U.S.A.”

But frontman Chris Robinson was not having it, and after the crowd kept going with it, he went off on the audience:
“I don’t know what you have to be so proud of right now.”
Yikes…
Many in the Florida crowd did not appreciate that, and they started booing him and some even left the concert altogether. In a video obtained by TMZ, you can hear Chris say that he isn’t “afraid” of their boos, and went on to say that they “most assuredly are not f****** ignorant.”
It’s not often you hear in artist blast their fans like that, especially in the middle of a show as the people who bought tickets to see them are sitting there watching, but that’s sadly the hyper-political world we live in now:
“Some of us have real faith. And, for those of you f****** booing us, some of us are not afraid. And we most assuredly are not f****** ignorant. So thank you.”
The band hasn’t been shy about their political leanings over the years, and that’s their prerogative to do so, but to openly blast the people who bought tickets to see you… yeah, there’s not a lot of southern hospitality going on there. And especially during something as harmless as chanting “USA, USA,” you know… the country you’re performing in. You’re that trigged over a chant like that?
Of course, Whiskey Myers is a Texas-based band, they’re one of the best in the business and put on an incredible live show. And I would assume the band who sings “Pledge my allegiance the original way,” isn’t exactly a fan of their co-headliners ripping on the country. This is a great example of why it’s best for artists to probably stop grandstanding from the stage.
I have to imagine a lot of these fans were there to see Whiskey Myers anyways since they routinely sell out massive venues all on their own. They also generally go on ahead of the Black Crowes, so I don’t think anyone who left early is missing much… when was the last time The Black Crowes were truly relevant? Yeah, it’s been a while… but calling your own audience ignorant in the middle of the show is pretty wild.
