Tom Hanks must be so proud.
If you were wondering what Tom Hanks’ 35-year-old son, Chet, was up to, I’ve got an interesting update for you. He’s into acting, modeling and more recently, music. Chet has actually garnered quite the social media following online. That’s mostly thanks to a post he sent out a couple of years ago (2021), in which he called for it to be “White Boy Summer.”
But lately, Chet has chosen to focus in on his music career. He and another artist named Drew Arthur formed a group called Something Out West after living in California and getting sober together. After releasing a song called “Leaving Hollywood,” the duo signed with Big Machine Records – a Nashville-based label – in February of 2025.
They even performed at one of the smaller stages of Stagecoach, and Tom Hanks went viral for being a supportive dad in the crowd:

Like I said earlier, he must be so proud… that was Something Out West’s second ever show.
Chet Hanks talked about that when he stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon recently. Playing Stagecoach was an interesting topic, but the thing that took the cake was Chet’s recent move to Nashville. He decided to go all in on his pursuit of a country music career, and instead of moving into a fancy apartment in Music City… Hanks opted to move into a trailer park:
“I didn’t want to get an apartment because I literally just got a condo in L.A., and I furnished it. It was my first property, like buying it. I didn’t want to do that again and I didn’t want to furnish it. So I was, like, staying in Airbnbs and hotels and that gets really old because I just like having my own space.”
So I went on this road trip because I was bored by myself. I wanted to do a little get away… I stayed in an Airstream trailer and I really loved it. I was like, ‘Man, I want one of these. I want to get one of these.’ So I did. I got a trailer. It’s not an Airstream. I’m not there yet. But I’m really happy with it.”
It’s got to be a shock to the system to go from furnished condo in Los Angeles to… a trailer in Nashville.
Since he admitted that he didn’t get an Airstream, Chet later revealed the brand that he did end up going with. It’s a well-known RV brand, and the biggest selling point of it for him was the walk-in shower:
“It’s a Jayco Eagle. (It’s got) everything I need. I got my kitchen. I got, you know, a walk-in shower. That’s a big deal with trailers, if it’s a walk-in shower, because sometimes they combine the toilet and shower. It’s called a wet bath.”
Living the dream.
Chet Hanks went on to say that it’s not all that bad, and living in a trailer park isn’t what most people would imagine. As he chases his country music dream, he just lives out his normal life in the confines of his mobile home… and hangs out with a lot of retirees:
“I’m probably, like, the youngest person in the trailer park by like 30 or 40 years. It’s not what you think, you know? You think, ‘Oh, you’re gonna live in a trailer park. It might be a little sketchy. It might be a little dangerous.’ It’s all just, like retirees, you know? Great people.”
What a wild story, eh?
