Telling her story for the first time.
Paige Shiver, the former mistress of Sherrone Moore, is opening up on her experience for the first time since the now-ex coach was fired from the University of Michigan and arrested on a slew of charges.
Moore pled no contest last month to one charge of trespassing and one charge of malicious use of a telecommunications device after initially being charged with felony home invasion and misdemeanor charges of stalking and breaking and entering.
He was sentenced to 18 months probation and fined $1,000.
Moore was fired as the Wolverines head coach back in December, when it was revealed that he had engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staffer, later revealed to be Shiver. And shortly after his firing, according to prosecutors and publicly released 911 calls, Moore’s wife called the police and reported that he was threatening to kill himself.
He then allegedly went to the apartment of his mistress and “grabbed several butter knives and a pair of kitchen scissors, and began to threaten his own life.”
After the plea deal, Shiver expressed her displeasure with the sentence as not fitting the crime:
“December 10th was the most terrifying day of my life. The criminal acts he committed were extremely frightening and violent. He broke into my apartment, crying, yelling, enraged, and came at me with knives. I was threatened, and I feared for my life. Today’s sentence does not reflect the harm done to me or the objective evidence in this case.”
Shiver also blasted the university for failing to protect her:
“The University of Michigan gave this man limitless power and emboldened him to do whatever he wanted for years with no accountability.”
Well with legal proceedings over, Shiver is finally able to tell her story, and this week she sat down with Good Morning America to discuss everything that she’s been through.
Shiver revealed that their relationship started in January 2022, shortly after she was hired as an intern in October 2021. At the time Moore was an assistant under former Michigan (and current Los Angeles Chargers) head coach Jim Harbaugh, and she says that she was often tasked by other coaches with calming Moore down – even during games.
“No one cared about my feelings. They wanted to use me to help him so that they could get through the season.
He and other coaches had control over my career, especially him. I mean, he could fire me in a second. People knew, but no one was doing anything about it.”
Shiver also tearfully revealed that she became pregnant by Moore back in May 2022, but was advised by doctors to have an abortion due to complications from Pompe Disease:
“Multiple doctors and experts told me it wouldn’t be right or healthy for me to keep the baby.”
She says that she wanted to keep the baby, but that the coach supported her decision and told her to do what was best for her body. Ultimately she had the abortion in July 2022.
She says she initially denied the affair when asked about it by the university because she felt the university “cared more about winning football games, not having another scandal, and trying to protect the head coach.” And she claims that any time she tried to end things with Moore or leave Michigan he would threaten suicide or beg her to stay:
“Every time I tried to pull away, every time I tried to get out of even Michigan, he always had a way to pull me in and make me feel that I couldn’t leave him because he was so miserable without me.”
Eventually she spoke out to attorneys hired by the university, which set off the chain of events that led to Moore’s firing and arrest. But she still doesn’t feel that she got justice because he was able to get by with only probation:
“I don’t think it reflects what he did to me. He took no accountability.”
What a terrible situation.
