She’s always keeping it real.
Lainey Wilson is as busy as ever, selling out venues all over the world, and in addition to being a household name and one of country music’s biggest stars, her personal life is just as busy, as she’s currently planning a wedding with her fiancé Devlin “Duck” Hodges, whom she got engaged to last February.
And ahead of the release of her documentary next week on Netflix called “Lainey Wilson: Keepin’ Country Cool,” she’s opening up about a very personal journey and explaining why she decided to freeze her eggs. It’s no easy process, as you can imagine, and Lainey will let viewers into that part of her life during this film. I’m sure a lot of thought went into her decision to do this, and in an interview with People, she explained that she’s never been on the “normal” timeline, focusing on her career for much of her 20s and now 30s, putting starting a family on the back burner while she chased her country music dreams.
Lainey says she’s “thankful” for the opportunity to do the egg retrieval:
“I think the world and just people in general try to give you a timeline when things should be happening, and I’m just so thankful that I was given the opportunity to do the egg retrieval and that it was successful. I’ve focused on my career for so long, and I definitely have something to show for it with my music, but I have other dreams too.”
It’s something I think many women can relate to, and Lainey being so open about her journey to one day start a family is impressive, and it only makes me respect her more because fertility and family planning is something most don’t talk about so publicly. Lainey has always seemed to march to the beat of her own drum, so to speak, and I think her points about not being on society’s timeline will resonate deeply.
Lainey also explained that she never dreamed about a wedding day growing up, but spent her time thinking about what she might wear for her Grand Ole Opry debut, and since she’s made all of that happen, she’s discovered new dreams, like having children with Duck. Lainey decided to do the egg retrieval before she even got engaged to Duck, joking that she thought she was going to have to propose, and she made it a priority to fit that in during her very busy schedule:
“I found a window in my schedule, and as soon as I got back from touring in Europe, I started my process. I just made this a big priority. I had to say, like, ‘All right, it’s got to be on the schedule.'”
Just two days after the retrieval, she started filming the movie “Reminders of Him,” which is her big screen debut and just came out about a month ago.
Understandably, her “hormones were all over the place,” but she knows she made the right decision given the nature of her career. Lainey says she thinks she’ll make a great mama one day, adding the world needs more people like Duck, and the dream of being parents is one they both have together:
“The way this business works, time completely flies. I’m scheduling things two years out. I just wanted to make sure that when the time comes and I want to [have a baby], I will hopefully be given that opportunity. I think I’d make a great mama, and I think there needs to be more people in the world like Duck. So it is definitely a dream of ours.”
Of course, Lainey is going to make sure her kids learn her incredible work ethic, saying they will be on the road with her and when they get old enough, they will be put to work:
“I’ll be taking them kids on the road and putting them to work. Get them selling merch!”
Sounds like she’ll be raising those kids right, whenever that day comes… I have no doubt they’ll be the hardest working people in show business, just like their mom.
Lainey’s documentary will be out on Netflix starting on April 22nd, where she will give fans a very intimate look at her life both on and off stage. You can see the trailer below.
