This is going to be good.
In January, it was announced that Lainey Wilson would be releasing a documentary in partnership with Netflix called Lainey Wilson: Keepin’ Country Cool, which will give fans an intimate look at her life as she juggles being a country music superstar with everything else she has going on outside of that.
It was directed by Amy Scott and produced by Teton Ridge Entertainment, Sandbox Studios and MakeMake in association with Shark Pig Studios, and will be available on Netflix globally starting on April 22nd.
Lainey says it was a very “special project” to make, and she hopes the message of dreaming big, while staying true to who you are, is the secret to success no matter what you’re chasing:
“I couldn’t be more excited that this documentary is going to be on Netflix. This was such a special project to make, and I hope that folks who watch it see that no dream is too big and that staying true to who you are will always lead you exactly where you’re meant to be.”
The description of the film says the doc will navigate the complexities of a small town girl who has found stardom, and how she maintains balance in both her personal and professional life with humility and grace:
“The doc follows Wilson as she redefines what it means to be a modern country star, proving that staying true to yourself can lead to major success.
The film captures a pivotal moment in her career, exploring the country icon’s personal journey and chronicling her struggles and triumphs as she captivates fans on stage across the country.”
Producers include Angus Wall, Terry Leonard, Kent Kubena, Thomas Tull, Jillian Share, Jason Owen, Jen Gorton. Mandelyn Monchick, Josh Miller, Katie Admire, Jillian Apfelbaum and Nicolas Gordon will executive produce.
And today, we have our first look at the official trailer, where Lainey explains how long she’s been working at this dream which many view as an “overnight success,” and how she’s had this dream to be a performer since she was just 5-years-old:
“I think a lot of people thing this was an overnight success. I’ve been here 14 years. So a 14-year overnight success. I spent a decade being the one you didn’t see coming. I am putting everything I’ve built on the line to make sure they never forget the name Lainey Wilson.
I remember at 5-years-old feeling more comfortable onstage than I do anywhere else. I was going and playing at random things. I played on top of an air conditioning unit. My payment was free hot dogs the rest of my life. That is one of the biggest flexes I will ever have.”
Lainey also talks about her fiancĂ© Duck and how special their relationship is, her hopes to one day have children of her own, and it looks like she is going to show the process of freezing her eggs as well, which is something she’s never spoken about publicly before.
I wasn’t sure exactly how personal she would get, but it looks like we’re really going to get a well-rounded and very intimate look into her life, which I’m really excited for because for the most part, we don’t really get to see all of that in her posts on Instagram, of course, and it looks like she’s putting it all on the table.
Most of Lainey’s fans know how down-to-earth and humble she is, and she’s never forgotten who she is or where she came from despite incredible success, and it sounds like this film is going to give fans a fresh perspective on an artist they already know and love and then some.
Some of the personal stuff, I imagine, wasn’t super easy to let the public into, but it goes to show Lainey’s authenticity and I will definitely be watching this when the documentary drops on Netflix on April 22nd. You can watch the trailer here:
Here’s another clip from the doc where she talks about meeting Duck:
