Taylor Sheridan Fans Think There Could Be A ‘Landman’ & ‘Dutton Ranch’ Crossover With Both Shows Set In Texas

Dutton Ranch

Could two of Taylor Sheridan’s worlds eventually collide? Fans are sure hoping so.

The Yellowstone creator is keeping his fans fed with all of the shows that are currently out… or on the way. Sure, the flagship series is over, but the spinoffs are really just getting started. Though everyone loved the 1883 and 1923 prequels, fans are loving that established Yellowstone characters are getting their very own shows.

Marshals, which focuses on Kayce Dutton, aired its first episode on CBS earlier this year. And the Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler spinoff, Dutton Ranch, will premiere on Paramount+ May 15.

Then you have other Taylor Sheridan shows outside of the Yellowstone universe. Tulsa King, Special Ops: Lioness, Mayor of Kingstown and Landman all provide that same, Taylor Sheridan vibe. And all of those series are currently airing (Mayor of Kingstown is set to end with i’s next season), so there’s plenty of TV from the mind of Taylor Sheridan to go around.

And since we’re talking about Yellowstone and Landman and all of Taylor Sheridan’s successful projects, I think it’s worth asking this question: Are those two shows linked together? Or do they take place in the same universe?

Following the release of the teaser trailer for Dutton Ranch, many fans took notice that Rip and Beth were no longer in Montana, and are set to take on South Texas in the new spinoff. Fans couldn’t help themselves and pointed out that the events of Landman take place in West Texas, and started wondering if the two worlds could crossover at one point.

We see it happen on TV all the time, and the crossovers often lead to very memorable moments in television.

The comment section of that teaser trailer for Dutton Ranch had many replies like these:

“Since it’s in Texas happening around the same time, imagine Tommy and some characters from ‘Landman’ cross over with ‘Yellowstone.'”

“Crossover with ‘Landman,’ just you wait.”

“So ready for a ‘Landman’ Season 3 and ‘Dutton Ranch’ Season 1 crossover.”

That would undoubtedly be appointment television if it happened.

But unfortunately, it seems that even though both shows came from the creative mind of Taylor Sheridan, they are not set in the same universe. That has unfortunately and tragically been confirmed. However… just because we might not ever see a Dutton-Norris crossover doesn’t mean that the two shows don’t have similarities.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Billy Bob Thornton once pointed out that Landman and Yellowstone do have a lot in common. Their stories might be unraveling in totally different worlds, but the stories themselves have a lot of overlap, as the 70-year-old actor explained:

“Well, I think one thing that’s similar would be that it’s about the people, and the sort of inside workings of what’s going on with them all. I can’t stress enough that this is not just a show saying, ‘Hey, look, this is the oil business.’ It’s about people and what we do in life, whether good or bad. I think Taylor has a handle on human behavior, and I think in that way, they’re similar.”

I hope I didn’t get your hopes up by entertaining the thought of the two worlds overlapping. And it’s only right to wonder, since the two shows are set in the same state. Just know that in a way, every Sheridan show is linked together, if only by its ability to showcase the highs and lows of human behavior.

And all that being said… you never know if Sheridan would change his mind. He only decided to make The Madison stand alone as something outside of the Yellowstone universe while he was writing it. So there’s always a chance that he could wave a magic wand and give fans what they want (though he didn’t do that with The Madison and Yellowstone, and those play out in very similar geographic locations too).

It’d certainly be cool to see Rip Wheeler and Tommy Norris cross paths… fans can dream, can’t they?
