Pretty much sums it up.
By now you’ve no doubt heard about the nonsensical “controversy” surrounding the US men’s hockey team and their reaction to a call from President Donald Trump after winning the gold medal over Canada at the Winter Olympics.
Here’s the short version: While celebrating with the team in the locker room, FBI Director Kash Patel called up the president to speak to the team. During the call, he invited the boys to the White House and the State of the Union address tonight, while also making a joke about having to invite the women’s team too because he would be “impeached” if he didn’t:
“I must tell you, we’re going to have to bring the women’s team, you do know that. I do believe I probably would be impeached.”
(This was after he also made a joke about goalie Connor Hellebuyck playing “not bad.”)
Well naturally the loudest voices on the far left are outraged that the men’s team laughed at the joke instead of lecturing the president on identity politics while throwing back beers:
Well one of the loudest of those insane voices has been Barstool Sports personality Kelly Keegs, who has been melting down about the phone call and response from the men’s team for days now:
Even Barstool Sports founder and CEO Dave Portnoy has made fun of his employees for the nonsensical outrage:
The outspoken Portnoy has made clear this week that he thinks the entire controversy is ridiculous, but today during an appearance on Fox Business he went nuclear on those who are attacking our gold-medal winning hockey team.
Portnoy said those who are upset about the phone call should be in a mental hospital:
“Anybody who has a problem with anything the men did should be checked into a mental institution. They’re absolute psychopaths.”
El Presidente says that while he understands people thinking that Trump maybe shouldn’t have made the joke during the phone call, it’s ridiculous to then turn that into anger towards the team, but blames the outrage on hatred for the president:
“I have no problem if people want to say, ‘Hey, maybe Donald Trump shouldn’t have made that joke in the moment.’ He’s trying to chum it up with the boys.
You hated Trump before that joke. You hate him now. Fine, you hate him. But to try to throw this on the men’s hockey team, who just had the greatest moment of their life, it’s five minutes after the game ended. The euphoria, the dopamine. They’re celebrating. They’re talking to the president.
And you want them to be like, ‘Hold on, Mr. President. You can’t make that joke right now in the locker room. We need a minute. You can’t do that.’ It is so stupid.”
He also brought up his own employees who were outraged, pointing out that most of the people who are upset don’t even watch sports. (Keegs didn’t tweet about the women’s team at the time they won gold, and only mentioned them after the joke from Trump).
“A lot of these people are criticizing – we have one of them. And you can say whatever you want at Barstool. People don’t know that. It’s not all conservative. It’s not all liberal.
But a lot of the people complaining, they didn’t even watch the hockey. They didn’t even know hockey was going on.
I watched both sports. I was celebrating just as hard for the women as the men. I said we took Canada and we broke their back and made them humble. We stole their sport.
So I’m celebrating both these things in real time. You have people who didn’t even watch the games getting mad now. They’re getting retroactively mad. It’s so stupid. It’s so dumb.”
Portnoy sums it up by blaming the outrage on the fringe lunatics who got Trump elected back in 2024:
“If you have a problem with it, you have a problem with everything. And it’s this type of attitude, that’s what gets Trump elected in the first place, because people are like, ‘Enough of this.’ It’s craziness.
You’re mad that these guys didn’t stop Trump, and then they’re like, ‘Oh, apologize after the fact.’ Now you want them to pick a fight with the President of the United States over nothing joke?
They are insane and I’ll stand by it: If you had a problem with the way the men’s hockey team handled it you are a lunatic. You should go to the local insane asylum and say, ‘Please give me a white jacket, I need it.'”
Couldn’t have said it better myself. It’s a symptom of outrage culture where people are looking for reasons to get offended at anything that has to do with Trump, and people who have to make themselves the center of attention any time something good happens for our country.
