Flatland Cavalry Announces New Album, ‘Work Of Heart,’ Drops New Single “On And On”

Come on with it.

Though it’s been nearly three years since the release of their latest album, Wandering Star, Flatland Cavalry has slowly but surely become one of the biggest bands flying out of both Texas and the alternative country scene as a whole. Beyond scoring a plethora of acclaimed hits such as the certified gold duet with Kaitlin Butts, “A Life Where We Work Out,” along with other fan favorites like “Sleeping Alone,” “Missing You” and “Mountain Song,” the West Texas band has also grabbed back-to-back nominations for Group of the Year at the 2024 and 2025 ACM Awards.

This year they’ve also scored major opening spots on both reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year, Lainey Wilson and Billboard’s #1 Artist of 2025, Morgan Wallen’s, upcoming tours this year. Even more notably, they sent their current single, “Never Comin’ Back” to country radio as their first-ever song on the format, receiving the second-most adds the week of February 2nd with 53 and debuting at #57 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.

Reflecting on the career-first for the band, Cordero would express just how much the radio-play meant to him, noting how his first introduction to country music came from his parents’ radio as a child.

“From my earliest days as a kid in West Texas, I can remember my parents’ radio on in the house, all day, every day. It’s that radio that first introduced me to country music. To finally have a chance to have one of our songs come out of those same speakers is a dream come true.”

With so much momentum gained, not only in the past two years but also in the last month in particular, Flatland has officially announced that their fifth studio album, Work of Heart, will be releasing on Friday, March 27th.

Overall, Work of Heart will contain 12 tracks, including the aforementioned “Never Comin’ Back” as well as their reflection on life on the road, “Gone.” In conjunction with the album announcement, Flatland also surprise-dropped the album’s second track, “On and On” this morning as another teaser of what’s to come on the record.

As for “On and On,” it’s everything you’d expect from Flatland in the best way possible. Written by frontman Cleto Cordero, along with Cole Taylor and Ray Fulcher, the track is a fairly straightforward love song on its surface. With that being said, however, Cordero’s always-smooth vocals and the heavy emphasis on fiddle throughout make the track an absolute delight to listen to. In particular, the breakdown of the chorus to close the song, highlighted by the entire band harmonizing as the tempo picks up, is absolutely killer.

Given the strength of Flatland’s entire discography over the past decade, in addition to the first three pre-released tracks, it’s safe to say that we’re in for another treat here on Work of Heart. In an era filled with some of the best bands we’ve seen arguably in the genre’s history, ranging from the likes of Turnpike Troubadours and Shane Smith & the Saints to Whiskey Myers and The Red Clay Strays, Flatland has proven time and time again why there one of the standouts. And it’s safe to say Work of Heart will prove why once again on March 27th.
