Green Day Gets Roasted For Bailing On “MAGA Agenda” Line During Super Bowl Performance

Green Day

Playing by the rules…. so punk rock.

I’ll admit, I grew up loving Green Day. At one point they were my favorite band in the world. I bought my first guitar so I could bang out “Welcome To Paradise” and “Brain Stew” riffs with the cassette tape I’d record off the radio…

But in 2026, my God, what a bunch of washed up, whiny twats… they still sound ok, but they look like a bunch of old women. Like I thought that was the Dixie Chicks up there for a second.

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has never been shy about his political leanings, and given the political climate lately, he’s been more vocal than ever. The 53-year-old has been very vocal about his disdain towards former President Donald Trump, and didn’t even tone it down after the assassination attempt on the 45th (and now 47th) President’s life in Butler, Pennsylvania in 2024. He actually held up a “Trump Head” at a concert just a couple of weeks removed from Trump’s incredibly close call.

Being anti-establishment and anti-government was always part of the band’s brand, and the greater punk rock ethos, and yet, somehow they continue to side with the mainstream left-wing “establishment” when it comes to the political world. The side of the aisle that controls the media, Hollywood, the music industry, academia… not very punk rock to me.

In the past few years, Green Day has been known to tweak the lyrics to their hit song “American Idiot” to display their hatred for politicians… Trump in particular. During a performance last year, in the part of the verse where Armstrong sings “part of the redneck agenda,” the band substituted “I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda.” And then this week, Billy Joe Armstrong told ICE agents to quite their jobs during some pre-Super Bowl performance:

“To all the ICE agents out there, wherever you are, quit your sh*tty-ass job. Quit that shitty job you have. Because when this is over — and it will be over at some point in time — Kristi Noem, Stephen Miller, JD Vance, Donald Trump, they’re gonna drop you like a bad f*cking habit. Come on this side of the line.”

As if Barack Obama didn’t use ICE to deport millions and millions of people, with Tom Homan, no less…

Of course, Green Day was slated to perform during the pregame today at the Super Bowl, and while I’m sure they were told to keep politics out of the performance, fans were expecting the the San Francisco natives to go rogue and slam him anyways. I mean, why not? What are you worried about… a fine? Who cares.

Welp, they didn’t…

They played it safe like good little boys, and now, people are mad at them.

Go figure…

I guess punk rock really is dead…
