Couldn’t script this any better.
It was a tough first season at UNC for Bill Belichick. The legendary former coach for the New England Patriots led the Tar Heels to a 4-8 record, finishing 14th in an incredibly weak ACC.
But off the field, things seem to be going pretty well for the 73-year-old coach.
Belichick has been in a relationship with 24-year-old former college cheerleader Jordon Hudson since 2023, but earlier this year questions swirled after Hudson was spotted on the field with Belichick during UNC football practices, leaving many to wonder exactly what role she was playing with the team and whether she was on Belichick’s staff.

And it was also revealed that the coach had asked UNC staff to copy his Gen Z girlfriend on emails to him, raising even more questions.
Then of course came the disastrous CBS interview on his new book, The Art Of Winning: Lessons From My Life In Football.
Hudson was the only person who accompanied Belichick to the interview: No PR team, no other staff from UNC, nobody from the publisher of his upcoming book, which he was supposedly there to promote. At one point Hudson reportedly stormed off the set and delayed shooting by 30 minutes, forcing higher-ups at CBS to get involved. And she had apparently interrupted from off camera several times in addition to the one that was shown, forcing producers to try to figure out how to salvage the final product and edit the interview in a way that could be aired on television.
When reporter Tony Dokoupil asked about how the couple met (which has been widely reported as having happened while the two were on a flight together and he signed her college textbook), Hudson quickly jumped in and shut the question down in an awkward exchange:
The whole thing was bizarre, and led many to wonder whether Hudson was taking advantage of the legendary coach – or at the very least, tarnishing his legacy.
Then there were reports that Belichick’s daughter-in-law, who happens to be the wife of his son and defensive coordinator Steve Belichick, blew up on Hudson after a game this year, accusing Hudson of being controlling and calling her “batsh-t crazy.”
But the coach doesn’t seem to be too worried about his relationship, because Belichick has been spotted multiple times recently at cheerleading competitions with Hudson, supporting her as she competes with her adult co-ed cheerleading team.
People do crazy things for love.
Well with things going well in his personal life, Belichick still has to try to turn things around for the Tar Heels. He’s going into 2026 firmly on the hot seat, no doubt eager to make sure this his first venture into college football isn’t a total bust. And it was just announced today that Belichick is bringing in a new offensive coordinator to help his struggling team.
According to several reports, former Arkansas interim head coach Bobby Petrino has agreed to become the next offensive coordinator for UNC. Yes, that Bobby Petrino, who was famously fired from Arkansas for having an affair with a former volleyball player turned football staffer.
I’m sure you remember the whole saga from 2012, when Petrino was in a motorcycle wreck, which ended up exposing his affair when it turned out that his mistress (and employee) was on the bike with him. I mean, who can forget this press conference:
And look, there’s no doubt that Petrino is a great football mind. Since getting fired from Arkansas, he’s served as head coach of Western Kentucky and Louisville, as well as Texas A&M and UNLV as offensive coordinator.
Most recently, he returned to Arkansas as offensive coordinator under Sam Pittman, who was fired midway through the 2025 season – leading to Petrino being named interim head coach at the university that once fired him.
Isn’t college football the best?
Well immediately after it was announced that Petrino would be joining Belichick’s staff, the jokes started flying about how much the two veteran coaches have in common…namely, their taste for younger women:
It’s really a shame that Belichick and Hudson scrapped that docuseries on UNC football this season, but I think I speak for everybody when I say that with Petrino in the building now too, we NEED cameras following this team around in 2026.
