Ernest Pranks Lainey Wilson On Last Night Of ‘Whirlwind’ Tour: “I Definitely Owe You A Pair Of Pants”

What a way to end the tour.

This weekend, Lainey Wilson wrapped up her extensive Whirlwind tour, which included Ernest as direct support over the last several months, and he wasn’t going to let it come to an end without pulling a prank on Miss Lainey.

Ernest walked out onstage to sing their duet “Would If I Could,” though he didn’t exactly look like himself…

He came out dressed just like Lainey, in a pair of her signature bell bottoms, a cowboy hat, and even a wig with long, curly hair.

Lainey told him he needed a little more going on with his backside (we all know she went viral several years ago for her… assets), and she joked that he needed to start “doing squats” in order to look more like her. She also told him she would be “mad as hell” if her pants don’t fit after his little stunt…

“You better start doing them squats… Ernest, I cannot believe you’re doing this right now. Dude, if my pants don’t go back to the normal size I’m gonna be mad as hell.”

He laughed as he admitted:

“I definitely owe you a pair of pants… I feel better than I thought I would… this is me in my peak form.”

I’m pretty sure Lainey has more bell bottoms than anyone on the planet, but hopefully he didn’t try on her favorite pair… check it out:

Ernest shared a few photos of his new look on Instagram, explaining that he now knows what it’s like to “walk to stage in her pants”:

“Wrapped up this tour with Lainey Wilson last night. I don’t know what it’s like to walk a mile in her shoes, but I DO know what it’s like to walk to stage in her pants…. Thank you Lainey for being so good to us and sharing ur fans with us. Hope to see y’all soon!”

What an outfit…

Throughout the tour, Lainey and Ernest have been performing their duet “Would If I Could” for fans all over the country, and the song was included on Ern’s Nashville, Tennessee album that he released in 2024.

It actually has an incredibly interesting backstory, seeing as it was written in 1996 by two of the all-time great country music songwriters Dean Dillon and Skip Ewing in what was somehow their only writing collaboration together. He sent a solo version to country radio because Lainey had at least one other single starting to take off at radio, but nothing beats the duet version in my humble opinion.

It’s already stood the test of time, because the song is actually almost 30-years old. A little while back, legendary songwriter Dean Dean told Lost & Found Radio with Lori McKenna that he always knew it was a great song that for whatever reason just got tossed aside like so many unfortunately do, though it’s hard to imagine how that happened to this one, though…

@maddygreeeen probably one of my favorite parts of the entire concert. they sounded so good together!! #laineywilson #ernest #phx1 #country ♬ original sound – maddy
