Gotta respect this kid’s restraint.
An Austin, Texas mother is demanding that charges be filed against a man who was caught on video threatening to drown her 14-year old son for fishing without a license.
The kicker? He wasn’t even legally required to have one.
The incident went down back on October 22, when the kid decided to stop by the neighborhood pond in the Onion Creek area of Austin and rip some lips after school. But while he was fishing, an angry man approached him – so he started recording.
The man (if you want to call him that) asked the 14-year old if he had a fishing license, and the kid calmly explained to him that he wasn’t required to have one because of his age:
“I don’t need a fishing license. I’m 14, I don’t need one.”
And he was right: The Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife confirmed that minors are not required to have a fishing license in the Lone Star State until they’re 17 years old.
The man doubled down on being wrong though, and continued to insist that the kid was required to have a fishing license and had to leave:
“Yeah you do. You need a fishing license. Well you’re being called to security and we’re going to report you to Parks and Wildlife for illegally fishing.”
The kid once again explained that he didn’t need a license at 14, and was allowed to be there, and that’s when the man lost his mind and escalated things:
“You’re an idiot. F–king read the signs. If I catch you out here again I’m gonna punch your lights out so hard you knock yourself out, and I’m gonna drown your f–king a–. Get the f–k out of here.”
Now, first off, kudos to the kid for the way he handled that. He stayed remarkably calm and clearly knew the laws that he needed to follow.
But man, what is wrong with this dude?
As many on social media pointed out, the kid should be praised for spending his free time doing something wholesome and not getting into trouble, and instead this maniac came over and threatened him for no reason…while not knowing the law himself. Absolutely insane.
The video quickly went viral on social media as the kid asked for help identifying the man, who he describes as bald and in his 40s or 50s. And his mother, Victoria Retana, is demanding action be taken against the guy who threatened her son.
Retana filed a police report over the threats, but according to detectives the man’s actions amount to only a Class C misdemeanor of assault by threat – and the Austin Police Department doesn’t handle Class C misdemeanors, so it’s up to the county attorney and the municipal courts to decide whether to take action.
For the mother though, she wants to see the man held accountable:
“My son was just doing a wholesome activity. He’s just fishing. Nobody deserves to be threatened by death for fishing,”
So far no charges have been filed for the incident.
Man, what a miserable life you must have to threaten a 14-year old who wasn’t bothering anybody and was staying out of trouble. What a piece of…well, never mind.
