Paul Cauthen isn’t putting the rest of life on hold amidst his cancer battle.
It was earlier this year that Big Velvet shared in a lengthy post on social media that he had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Cauthen had first decided to take a break from touring to focus on his health, and soon after disclosed that he was battling cancer. The country music artist shared another message later on sharing he was taking a holistic route in lieu of regular cancer treatment:
“I will not be bridled. I will not be told what to do. I have built this with my own blood, sweat, and tears. I am shrinking this cancer by the day. I have had to go my separate ways with a lot of folks because they cannot get behind my personal HOLISTIC approach to beating cancer…
I am sick and tired of all the people telling me how and what I should do with MY body. I’ve never experienced it more until this cancer announcement. Everybody is different! Everybody has their own right. I am behind anybody’s approach with their own will. I stand behind anybody with cancer! I will beat cancer. That’s final. God is good.”
So how is Paul Cauthen’s fight against cancer going? Over the summer, he was quoted saying that he was “whooping cancer’s a**.”
According to the “Last of My Kind” singer, one of the worst parts of his fight against thyroid cancer is some in his close circle looking at him differently because he’s chosen to go the holistic route. He disclosed in a podcast interview that he was taking a lot of different supplements, as well as ivermectin, fenbendazole, and methylene blue.
Cauthen basically did so because he opposes the thought of chemotherapy or surgical removal. There’s a lot that went into his decision to not go with traditional treatment (side effects, losing his voice, etc.), but he never imagined that a difficult hurdle in his cancer journey would be facing pushback for decisions he’s made about his own body.
But on the lighter side of things, Paul Cauthen is apparently doing well enough in his cancer fight that he’s actually been able to work on some new music. To think that he was just diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, and now he’s prepping to release a new album is rather impressive. Big Velvet was excited to share the news in his latest social media post:
“I cancelled a bunch of shows this year due to being burnt out and sick…. I got my health right and remembered why I do this in the first place. I’m called to do this. The Lord has blessed me in countless ways. I turned my back, I selfishly chose my way instead of just listening to the calling.
Thankful for all of you who made it out to all my shows. We couldn’t do it without you. Boy do we have some songs coming for you! Album is about mixed and ready for master. The band is hot. The team is tight. It just feels right. God bless you.”
And that’s not the only big news that Paul Cauthen has shared recently.
Just a few days ago, the country singer shared that he and his wife, Elizabeth, are expecting a baby at the beginning of next year. They’ve already have a “Lil’ Velvet” jacket made for their little one that’s on the way, and Paul shared that he and his wife have been trying to have a baby for close to five years:
“Elizabeth and I are beyond excited to announce a baby boy is on the way. Spring 2026! We have been trying for over four years now. It’s God’s timing not ours. We are ready to bring Lil Velvet into this world.”
Adorable.
For Paul Cauthen to be facing what he’s facing, and still have the time to put together an album, all while also growing his family? That’s pretty remarkable stuff, if you ask me. Big Velvet is gonna be a dad sooner rather than later, and it sounds like he and his wife couldn’t be more excited about it.
Keeping “whooping cancer’s a**” Paul!
