Spotify users are having a no-good, terrible, very bad day.
There are two types of people in this world: Spotify users and Apple Music users. Sure, there are other ways to listen to music, but ever since the invention of music streaming was introduced in the mid 2010s, there’s really only been two major options for music fans. Today, Apple Music users are feeling like they’re on the top of the world, while Spotify users are having mental breakdowns.
Initial reports suggested that Spotify had suffered a security hack, but the company came out early this morning to clear the air. Spotify also confirmed that they were aware of the issue, and were doing their best to find a timely solution:
We are aware of the outage and working to resolve it as soon as possible. The reports of this being a security hack are false.

However, the outage persisted through much of the morning, and Spotify users started to lose it. Music can be an important part of someone’s daily routine, whether they listen to a playlist as they cook breakfast and get ready, or throw on some of their favorite songs for the morning commute. Spotify users didn’t have access to their paid music service earlier today for hours on end, and desperate times call for desperate measures.
I’m sure a lot of listening through YouTube took place this morning.
If you think about it, having your music streaming service go down is a pretty minor inconvenience. There are plenty of other alternatives, like flipping through the radio, or seeing what physical copies of music (or MP3 downloads) you still have accessible.
But if you were to get on social media and see how Spotify users were handling it, you would have thought the sky was falling. Apparently some never even knew it was possible:

The good news is that Spotify appears to be operating as it should be now, but it was down for much of the morning. I’m an Apple Music user, so I didn’t have to worry about it (not going to get into the “Which service is superior?” argument, but Apple Music had no issues today) but I checked in on Spotify when I saw it was a trending topic, and it was down for a good two or three hours.
I’d have to imagine that affected employee productivity… sometimes you just need a good song or playlist to help get your through the day, and that option wasn’t in the cards for many Spotify faithful.
