JD Vance Just Broke Ohio State’s National Championship Trophy, But His Response Was Perfect

JD Vance

Come on JD! Can’t have it …

The Ohio State Buckeyes visited the White House today to celebrate their 2025 College Football National Championship and perhaps no one was prouder than Ohio native (and vice president) JD Vance, who previously asserted his Buckeyes fandom by joking he would skip the Presidential Inauguration to watch Ohio State take on Notre Dame in the championship game.

But it appears he got a bit too excited and mishandled the trophy, causing it to break apart and fall to the ground while he tried to hoist it at the podium.

Take a look:

Admittedly, it looks like the guy next to him actually caused the top to come off the base and poor JD just happened to be the guy closest to the blunder. He quickly grabbed the bottom, helped put it back together, and soon it was good as new.

While obviously this isn’t a great look, he once again showed his humor and gave the absolute best reply one could in the situation:

“I didn’t want anyone after Ohio State to get the trophy so I decided to break it”

Absolute gold from the man who’s face became one of the most shared memes in history after the tense meeting with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Ohio State is the latest team to visit the White House after taking home their respective league’s championship last season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were greeted by President Donald Trump after a dominant 2024 season lead by international superstar Shohei Otani, who took home MVP honors after becoming the first player to ever join the 50-50 club (fifty home runs and fifty steals in the same season.

Next up is the Philadelphia Eagles, who were originally rumored to be turning down Trump’s invitation, though it was later clarified that they had “enthusiastically accepted” the invite. Trump is also inviting the Kansas City Chiefs, who lost to the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, to honor their 2020 Super Bowl victory. Their White House visit didn’t get to happen due to that whole Covid thing…

Charles Barkley Calls Out Athletes Not Visiting The White House Because Of Donald Trump

During an episode of The Steam Room, a podcast he has with fellow Inside The NBA co-host Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley tore into athletes turning down invitations to visit the White House just because they disagree with President Donald Trump.

I don’t care who the president is. He’s the President of the United States. It’s bothered me, the last 10 years, they’re like, ‘Well, I’m not going because this certain person is president.’ Dude, it’s the President of the United States.”

Barkley, who’s certainly no huge Trump fan, expanded on his views:

“Even though I disagree with President Trump on some things, if I met him, I would still give him the respect and dignity he deserves. We can disagree, but it bothers me when these teams don’t want to go to the White House.

I’m just disappointed… we got so divided. Where did we get to as a country when we’re like, ‘We’re not going to the White House, we don’t like who’s in there.’ That’s just stupid in my opinion.”

Hard to disagree with what the man is saying. Imagine right leaning athletes not wanting to meet Biden or Obama. It would be a very bad look for both them and their cause, right? Fortunately, it seems most teams are heading to DC, a trend I hope continues for the rest of the future.
