A debate between President Donald Trump and debate master Stephen A. Smith would do unprecedented numbers.
You’ve probably noticed that ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith has been poking his head into the political sphere more and more. Is that intentional? Does Smith truly have plans of running for President in 2028? Only time will tell, but regardless, it seems like Stephen A. Smith is willing to debate anyone, anywhere, at any time.
That’s especially true after controversy erupted yesterday when the Pentagon faced backlash for removing a story about historic sports figure Jackie Robinson’s career in the army from their official website. The portion of the website has since been reinstated, but it was initially believed that it was removed due to President Trump’s anti-DEI action.
When Stephen A. Smith got on his hit ESPN show First Take this morning, he didn’t hold back about the matter:
“Nobody is calling out the President, Donald Trump. I will. I’m not gonna call him names and all this stuff like stupid folks on the left are doing. Engaging in incendiary rhetoric. It’s unnecessary, it’s immature and it’s uncalled for. He’s the President of the United States. Treat him with the respect that he deserves, but in the same breath, call him to the carpet for the stuff that he’s doing
This is the same Donald Trump that looked at folks during the campaign in 2015 and 2024 and he said, ‘What do you got to lose?’ Okay? Well, guess what? He won the popular vote, he won the electoral college vote, he won every swing state, okay? And in the process, his numbers improved from 2020 to 2024 with young blacks, young Hispanics, okay? And young voters overall.
You forgetting about those people now that you’re in office, President Trump? They don’t matter now? History doesn’t matter? The inequities of this country didn’t matter? The insidious behavior and actions, from a historical perspective, oh, we want to ignore all of that? It doesn’t go down like that.”
Smith went on to point out what he viewed to be some of the inconsistencies of DEI, and cited former Fox News weekend host Pete Hegseth, who graduated from Princeton and also served the military, being appointed the head of the Defense Department, and also called out Trump for bringing DEI into the tragic Washington D.C. plane crash.
After a while, Stephen A. finally just decided to challenge every politician he could think of – and specifically Donald Trump – to a nationally televised debate about Diversity, Equity and Inclusion:
“President Trump, I’m happy to sit down with you to have that conversation, sir. I’d love for you to try to defend it. Vice President Vance, you too. Pete Hegseth, you too. Stephen A. Smith is calling you out on national television. I’d love for you to sit down with the cameras rolling and try to defend this. It’s ridiculous.”

Regardless of how you feel about the matter, you’ve got to admit that you’d be interested in a potential Trump vs. Stephen A. debate. Two of the best debaters in the world going at each other’s throats would be must see TV…
