In their first episode since leaving Barstool and teaming up with FanDuel, Taylor Lewan and Will Compton – of the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast – had Jelly Roll and Ernest on their show. The over-three-hour-long conversation covered all kinds of different topics, like the Grand Ole Opry, their respective shifts in the music they created, and even Jelly Roll’s health journey.

But probably the most interesting part that certainly caused some buzz online was when Ernest talked about how Tyler Childers didn’t want to talk to him, seeming to indicate that they’d had some sort of reaction in-person. He quickly brushed it off during the podcast, but then said he would tell the story soon.

Well, Ernest took to Instagram today to talk about what went down and it’s… strange, to say the least. Well, maybe…

Ern explained that, the night he wrote “I Had Some Help” with Post Malone, Morgan Wallen, Charlie Handsome and Chandler Walters, they were hanging out with a few others in the studio and Tyler just so happened to text Post to come to the bar he was at. Well, obviously, Post wanted to bring his friends he was with too, but I’m not sure if something got lost in translation or he didn’t tell Tyler he was bringing a crew (which included Ernest and Morgan), but it seems like Tyler was not interested in hanging out with them.

Ernest says they got to the bar in East Nashville, and he walked in first, solo, because Morgan and Post had stopped outside to talk to some fans. He introduced himself to Tyler, and said the others would be in right behind him. Tyler looked out and saw that Post was with Morgan, offered Ernest his seat, got up, and walked out the other side of the bar.

Ernest said he never texted Post back, and was “not to be heard from or seen again”:

“Story time. The night we wrote “I Had Some Help,” we were all in the studio, Post, Morgan, me, Charlie, Ashley Gorley, Chandler. And Tyler texted Post, ‘Come meet us at a bar.’ And he was like, ‘Alright, bringing the fellas.’ So we get to this bar, which was in East Nashville, I was already skeptical.

We get to the bar, I walk in first, Post and Morgan are outside of the bar talking to fans. I walk in, tap Tyler on the shoulder, ‘Hey how’s it going? I’m Ernest.’ ‘Hey, Ernest, good to meet you.’ ‘Hey, the boys are right behind me, they’re coming in, He looks over, sees them, and then he leans over to his friend and says something. He goes, ‘Hey, Ernest, you wanna have a seat? I was like ‘Yeah, sure.’

He he gets up, gives me a seat, and then I turn around, and he walks out the other side of the bar, not to be heard from or seen again. Didn’t text Post back, none of that just. Just went MIA, but I get it. Politics.”

I think there’s nothing more to it than what Ernest said at the end of the video in called it “politics,” because obviously, Tyler is on the exact opposite spectrum of country music, and is to independent country what Morgan is to mainstream. I’m not sure exactly if seeing Morgan made Tyler want to leave, or if it was something else, but from what I’ve gathered the way Ern told the story, that seems like Ernest was trying to suggest that Tyler didn’t want to be seen with Morgan Wallen.

Like Ernest said, politics is something that comes into play with everything, and everyone, in country music… sorry to break it to you, but no on is exempt from that, no matter how big, or “indie,” someone is.

But at the same time, Tyler is a notoriously private guy who admittedly got sober back in 2020 so maybe he just saw the crowd of superstars rolling in and was like “eh, this is not for me.” Again, this is just one side of the story, and we’ll likely never know Tyler’s version, so my best advice is to just read between the lines here.

Ernest captioned the video saying he “still loves” Tyler:

“Still love u Timmy Ty Childers.”

And then he added:

“Let’s be clear… I respect it.”

I mean, I just need to hear Tyler’s side now… guess there won’t be a Morgan/Post/Tyler collab anytime soon, which kind of sucks, because I’d love to hear what those three would come up with.
