Chris Stapleton Cracks Up At Fan Cussing About Beyoncé” In Australia: “What! I Don’t Think So”

Chris Stapleton doesn’t want the Beyhive coming after him, eh?

The “Broken Halos” singer is bringing his soulful country music down under. Chris Stapleton has noted that he will not be taking part in any shoeys while he’s touring in Australia, which is a big bummer for fans hoping to see him partake in this tradition.

“I’ve heard about this. I asked somebody before I went on for the first night, ‘Is there anything that I should be prepared for?’ And then they’re like, ‘Yes, a shoey. They’ll want you to drink beer out of a shoe.’ And I said I will graciously decline to do that.”

Stapleton will be graciously declining shoeys and taking smack on other artists on stage. During his recent show in Melbourne, Australia, Stapleton quickly shut down a fan who yelled out “f**k Beyoncé” from the crowd.

In between songs, when it was very silent during the acoustic portion of his setlist, the fan yelled it loud and clear for Stapleton to hear. Caught off guard, Stapleton chuckled at first, before taking a second to diplomatically respond, saying:

“What? I don’t think so.”

There were a few disappointing “awes” from the crowd, and I think they all hoped he would respond with a “Hell yeah” or some notion of agreement, but Chris has long been arguably the LEAST controversial figure in all of country music. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard the man say a bad thing about anybody.

This all, of course, happened after Beyoncé beat Stapleton for Best Country Album with Cowboy Carter over Stapleton’s Higher. Fans on social media had a lot of thoughts after that choice from the voting committee, as Beyoncé specifically said that her record was not a country album. Stapleton’s Higher was also a masterpiece of an album with deep cuts like “What Am I Gonna Do,” “South Dakota,” and stunning love songs like “The Day I Die” and “Love You On My Mind.”

Many folks felt like Stapleton was snubbed, and I’d have to agree:

After the Grammy Awards, there was a rumor that Stapleton filed an official objection for Beyoncé taking home Best Country Album. While these headlines were clickbait and false, country fans hoped it was true as they did not like seeing Cowboy Carter take home that award.

I am sure that talk of this rumor led to Stapleton’s response. As a Kentucky gentleman, he responded politely, not slandering the “Texas Hold ‘Em” artist. But this polite response did not stop some fans from leaving comments that he also did this to stay off Beyoncé’s hit list.

“He’s only saying that cause anyone who bashes Beyoncé gets in trouble.”

“Beyoncé’s biggest fans are her haters. See how she’s brought up all the time, always stay gracious best revenge is your paper.”

“I mean he’s not wrong (despite the agreeance with what would have been preferred).”

“I love them both, and I don’t like this thing of turning them against each other.”

Even without Higher winning a Grammy, country fans know that Stapleton is the real deal, and he will keep his nose to the grindstone as he continues to deliver solid ballad after solid ballad.

The man does not miss…
