Koe Wetzel Day just got a little better.
February 28th is right around the corner, and for those who celebrate National Koe Wetzel Day blasting “February 28, 2016,” while enjoying some cold beer and Taco Bell, you also have something new to add to your roster.
Koe Wetzel fans were already stoked to realize that February 28th fell on a Friday this year, which means you can party like Koe without worrying about being hungover at work the next day. But Koe Wetzel just made the holiday and New Music Friday a little sweeter with the announcement of a new live record dropping Friday. Yes, folks… in four days. Koe Wetzel spent a good portion of 2024 on the road, celebrating the music of his last studio record, 9 Lives, on the Damn Near Normal Tour. The tour hit nearly all corners of the United States, and the Texas native took his country-rock sound across the pond to show Europe how he likes to party.
Although fans will never get tired of this song, Koe has admitted he’s tired of playing it live. He told Dale Brisby during his appearance on the Rodeo Time podcast:
“To be honest with you, I’m so ready for that f***ing song to just be done… but we still play it at shows and it’s like, what most people come to hear.”
Given that this year will be the ninth anniversary of that forsaken night in Stephenville, Texas, I can understand why Koe is tired of playing it. While he might still be a wild East Texas boy at heart, Koe has matured a lot over the last few years and is about to enter a new chapter of life, as he and his girlfriend are expecting a baby girl this year.
Regardless, Friday is about to be a damn good New Music Friday and Koe Wetzel Day with the release of Live from the Damn Near Normal Tour.

Where To Celebrate National Koe Wetzel Day
Fans prepare for a wild Friday night out; some folk’s plans might include sitting in a garage blasting the new live album while pounding beers and whiskey. For others, it might mean heading to Koe Wetzel’s Fort Worth bar.
Koe Wetzel’s Riot Room is teasing that a surprise is in store at the location on February 28th. Given that Koe frequents the bar whenever he can, I would not be surprised if this meant he would appear on the grounds to greet and interact with fans.
I bet they will also spin a few of the live tracks from the new record on Friday.
“Y’all thought last year was a good time… Just wait until you see what we have in store.”
Last year, Koe Wetzel held a pop-up meet and greet at a Fort Worth Taco Bell (fitting) before he headed to his bar, where he appeared with Leon Bridges and was presented with a plaque for his certified platinum record “Drunk Driving.”
Whatever Riot Room has in store for its block party, it is sure to be a wild time. The bar perfectly blends a honky tonk with a club scene, screaming Koe’s personality throughout every inch of the West 7th Street location.
For any brave souls going to Riot Room, y’all might need some Jesus after…
Happy February 28th, go to church.
