The only thing better than Koe Wetzel Day coming up is being able to celebrate it on a Friday.

Mark your calendars, it’s that time of the year y’all. February 28th is officially ten days away and fans of the Texas-born country rock star are gearing up to raise their glasses (and maybe Crunch Wrap Supremes) in honor of the infamous night that led to one of his biggest songs.

The song is coincidentally titled “February 28th, 2016,” and was written about Koe’s arrest and time in jail for public intoxication in Stephenville, Texas. Ever since his “Noise Complaint” album from that year, it has been a big hit for Wetzel and a song that fans still scream every word to at his shows.

“La-la-la-la let’s pull over
I can’t hold it
Will you turn the music up?
And let’s play critter critter
Who is sober enough to take me to Taco Bell?
Singin’ who is sober
Who is Sober?
Enough to take me to Taco Bell

I need a taco, I’m drunk for some tacos
Will somebody take me to Taco Bell?”

The lyrics are hilarious, and the story is even better:

But this year, what everyone is already buzzing about, is that for the first time since 2019, the iconic day lands on a Friday. So of course, we are getting reminded by a lot of fans on TikTok…who seem pretty excited to say the least:

There’s something special about the day that calls for a few drinks, a trip to Taco Bell, and a few Liquid IVs in the morning. But one of the best parts about it is that only an elite group of people (fans of Koe) are the ones to know and celebrate. The POV from a Taco Bell worker from last year pretty much sums it up:

Koe has some of his own opinions on the holiday too, apparently having a love-hate relationship with the song that sparked this whole tradition. In a podcast with Dale Brisby back in June, he admitted he’s tired of playing it, but understands why fans still love it.

“To be honest with you, I’m so ready for that f***ing song to just be done… but we still play it at shows and it’s like, what most people come to hear.”

He’s not wrong, I guess it has been almost 10 years now since the incident, and probably isn’t the most fun day to re-live over and over, but I’m glad he knows we’ve turned it into an unofficial holiday. He even posted about it on the day in the past, advising fans to go to church when it fell on a Sunday:

But all these years later, there is still all the hype for making plans to celebrate properly:

So whether you’re heading to Vegas, hitting up Taco Bell, or just making some questionable decisions, make sure to throw on the song and celebrate accordingly.

Be safe out there y’all and stock up on the Liquid IV… It’s a game changer…
