Another angle of the terrifying crash.

Yesterday afternoon, a Delta flight crash landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport in Canada, leaving the aircraft upside down as passengers waited to be rescued by emergency personnel. They were on the runway, and ultimately had to disembark out of the emergency exit doors… pretty much your worst nightmare when flying.

Thankfully, no one was killed in the crash, though airport officials say that 18 of the 80 people aboard were injured, and three of them were taken to local hospitals, which includes a small child. Lawrence Saindon, a superintendent for Peel Regional Paramedic Services, says none of the injuries were serious, though it was initially reported that three of them were in critical condition. It’s truly a miracle that there were not more significant injuries.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and it’s still unclear what exactly caused the airplane to flip upside down upon landing. Many have speculated that a combination of factors could be at play, including poor runway conditions, strong winds, low visibility and/or mechanical failure.

USA TODAY confirmed that The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (Canada’s version of the U.S.’s National Transportation Safety Board) will lead the investigation into this incident has investigators going to the scene:

“The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is deploying a team of investigators following an accident involving an aircraft operated by Delta Air Lines, that occurred today at the Toronto / Lester B. Pearson International Airport, Ontario. The TSB will gather information and assess the occurrence.”

Delta issued the following statement on the matter:

“Delta Connection flight 4819, operated by Endeavor Air using a CRJ900 aircraft, was involved in a single-aircraft accident at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) around 3:30p ET on Monday. The flight originated from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP).

Initial reports were that there are no fatalities. Several customers with injuries were transported to area hospitals. Our primary focus is taking care of those impacted.”

Videos from passengers and onlookers at the airport are slowing coming in, and yesterday, Daily Mail Online shared footage from a woman inside the plane hanging upside down in the immediate aftermath of the crash… again, it’s like something out of a nightmare:

USA TODAY also shared new footage this morning of video of the crash, which shows the plane from the view of someone at the airport watching it land, where you can see it flip and catch on fire as it glides down the runway to a stop:

It’s just horrifying, but a miracle that no one was killed and all of the flight crew and passengers onboard are going to be okay… it just goes to show why it’s so important to wear your seatbelt while taking off and landing. If this isn’t living proof, I don’t know what is.
