Cross Canadian Ragweed Announces Stadium Show At Baylor University Featuring Turnpike, Wade Bowen & More

Sic ’em?

Typing that first sentence was painful for me as an Oklahoma State alumni. But as a resident of Texas, if this means Cross Canadian Ragweed is coming to this stage, hell yeah.

Over the last few days, Cross Canadian Ragweed has been rolling out the slowest tease known to man. After announcing their “The Boys From Oklahoma” event in Stillwater’s Boone Pickens Stadium, selling out all four nights, which equates to over 180,000 tickets, fans who were not lucky enough to snag tickets to the event have been keeping their fingers and toes crossed that the legendary Red Dirt group might play some additional shows.

Well, it appears as if those prayers will be answered.

A week ago, Ragweed posted a social media post featuring a similar cloth-covered item, resembling how they announced their reunion show. The cloth’s Valentine’s Day tag reads “From: Ragweed,” and the shape of Texas is evidently hidden under the image. Many fans immediately assumed Ragweed was returning to Billy Bob’s Texas to recreate their iconic live album.

However, as more images of the Lone Star state get shared, revealing more and more, fans begin to wonder if their initial thoughts are valid. And it appears as though fans were very wrong based on the last teaser image they shared.

With the state being split in yellow and green, the colors of the Baylor Bears, with a star near the city of Waco, Texas, fans were convinced they are about to announce another string of shows at McLane Stadium.

But why Waco? Some fans initially thought that Ragweed might be teaming up with Wade Bowen for an annual appearance at Bowen Musicfest, which the Texas legend holds in Waco. Bowen Musicfest benefits the Bowen Family Foundation, which helps support those in need.

“Through the Bowen Family Foundation, those funds help heal children and families in and around Waco.”

Given a picture of Cody Canada is on the home page for The Bowen Family Foundation, this wasn’t a bad guess, but not quite what Cody and the boys had in mind. Either way, for fans upset they were unable to attend Mile 0 Fest to catch their impromptu set or who could not get tickets to Stillwater, the good news is that Cross Canadian Ragweed has more in store.

Cross Canadian Ragweed has just announced that they will be headed to Waco on August 23rd alongside Turnpike Troubadours, Wade Bowen, Shane Smith and the Saints, and American Aquarium. Pre-sales open on February 18th, with the public sale of any remaining tickets set for February 21st.

Jason Cook, Baylor vice president of marketing and communications and chief marketing officer, says:

“We can’t wait to welcome The Boys from Oklahoma down I-35 and into the heart of Texas for what promises to be an incredible show at McLane Stadium. We appreciate Doussan Music Group selecting McLane Stadium to showcase these legendary bands not only for the Baylor community and Waco, but for all of Texas. This event will be a perfect way to kick off the fall semester for the Baylor campus as we head into the football season opener against Auburn the following weekend.”

Ragweed frontman Cody Canada adds:

“Texas has been a giant when it comes to support for our music, and Waco is in central Texas so it’s right in the middle of our base. My favorite part about this show is that we have a lot of friends there, and a lot of people we consider family. Wade Bowen is family, and he is from Waco so, he was the very first person I picked. We can’t wait to play for all the friends we’ve made here throughout the years. They welcomed us with open arms. We love it. When it comes to a tour, we do not have a plan for that right now. It’s one town, one show at a time.  With the success in Stillwater, Oklahoma we’d have to be crazy not to bring this to Texas with our brothers in the Turnpike Troubadours.  The love we have received from regrouping is beyond belief for me. The wave has started in Stillwater, and we are gonna ride it to Texas and see where we go from there.”

LET’S GO.

Something tells me this one might sell out pretty fast, and more shows might get added soon… stay tuned.
