Vince Vaughn appreciates some good country music.
The actor known for such classic, comedy hits as Wedding Crashers and Dodgeball recently showcased his singing ability (if you want to call it that) and appreciation for California country. A TikTok of Vaughn hopping on stage and joining a Bakersfield country sing-a-long has gone viral online, and it looks like the 56-year-old is a well-versed in the sub genre.
The Bakersfield sound is a type of country music that originated in (you guessed it) Bakersfield, California around the 1950s. It’s known for inspiring the honky tonk sounds and bringing in themes of rock and roll to the country music space. The song “Streets of Bakersfield” that Vaughn can be heard singing is actually a bit of a tribute to the sub genre of country.
The track was written by Homer Joy and recorded by Buck Owens in 1972, but it didn’t get much attention. It was only when Dwight Yoakam got Owens to record it with him in the late 1980s that the song really landed with the masses. Following the release of the duet, “Streets of Bakersfield” shot up to the No. 1 spot on the Hot Country Singles list.
It was actually Dwight Yoakam’s first No. 1 hit.
The Yoakam and Owens song also helped the Bakersfield sound gain traction once more, and I guess if you followed Vince Vaughn’s fandom of the sub genre all the way back to its source, it may have somehow led to the comedic actor jumping up on stage and singing “Streets of Bakersfield” with this artist named Annie Bosko.
She explained in the caption of her video that Vince Vaughn did not crash her set (as fitting as that may have been). Instead, her and the actor bonded over their mutual love and respect for the Bakersfield sound, and that led to Vince joining her on stage to sing this classic country song:
“To be clear, I invited Vince Vaughn to sit in after we bonded over our shared love of Bakersfield country, and the legend did not disappoint. What a kind man with an impressive knowledge of California country history. Singing Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakam’s ‘Streets of Bakersfield’ together was one for the books.”

A little pitchy from Vince Vaughn, but a great performance nonetheless.
And just in case hearing this rendition of the song got you interested in listening to the Vince Vaughn-less original, we’ve got that linked below for you:
