Chase Rice Chronicles Utah Elk Hunt In Short Film “The Chase”

If you’ve ever wanted to what a country music star’s hunting trip looks like, look no further than this new short film from Hook & Barrel Magazine called “The Chase.”

Fittingly named that because this documentary of sorts followed country artist Chase Rice during his epic elk hunt in the desert of Utah. Chase visited the historic Ensign Ranch, where he was basically interviewed over the course of his stay. While the “Bench Seat” singer was busy hunting and fly fishing, an interviewer was there to ask him about his career and new music he has on the way.

Most know that Rice has had one of the most rewarding career pivots in the music industry. If you’ve been plugged into what Rice is doing lately, you’d know that his new sound is very far removed from anything he was ever doing during his “Bro Country” era. All signs are pointing towards the new music he has on the way being much like his last two albums – I Hate Cowboys & All Dogs Go To Hell and Go Down Singin’.

During his conversation with Whiskey Riff last year, Rice explained that the new album on the way will be called EldoraHe describes as the project as “mostly story songs” that are inspired by his time spent out in Colorado, and judging by this short film below, Rice could throw in some more inspiration from this elk hunting trip in Utah as well.

This inside look into Chase Rice’s career and life outside of music was beautifully done, and Hook & Barrel did a wonderful job interweaving the full story of his career and the tense and exciting moments that show Rice and others on the hunt, all while showcasing some of the country star’s newer songs like “Haw River,”  “You In 85,” and “Fireside.”

If you’ve got some free time to check it out, I’d highly recommend it:

Chase Rice is an avid hunter, and explained in the film above that he looks forward to the release of hunting season every single year (touring season ends right when hunting season begins). Getting an inside look at the hunt through a long-form interview that also featured some fireside song playing and story telling was a great way to walk through the North Carolina native’s life – and what’s still to come.

And the bull elk he bagged and tagged isn’t the only one that’s he brought down as of late. During a hunting trip to Montana, Chase Rice killed another monster elk, and he’s actually found a way to use that successful hunt to benefit both the Carolinas and California as they both recover from their respective natural disasters. Rice was also a part of the Concert for Carolina benefit that was organized by Eric Church and Luke Combs and raised over $24 million for disaster relief.

You can hear Rice talk more about that in the sit down interview he did last year with our very own Whiskey Riff Raff podcast:

And just in case you wanted to catch up on some of the songs that were featured in the Hook & Barrel story, I’ve linked those below as well:
