Ohio State Gets Trolled For Cotton Bowl Promo Featuring A Cactus… That Doesn’t Grow In Texas

Hey Ohio State – excuse me, THE Ohio State – just do a little research before you go throwing together a graphic for the Cotton Bowl.

A week from today, the Texas Longhorns will face off against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl – which acts as the semi finals in the College Football Playoff. The Longhorns are coming off a thrilling overtime win against the feisty Arizona State Sun Devils, and the Buckeyes will look to keep their momentum rolling after embarrassing the number one seeded Oregon Ducks.

Crazily enough, every lower seeded team (Oregon, Georgia, Arizona State, Boise State) lost after getting first-round-byes in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff.

So now, on one side of the bracket, you have Penn State set to battle with Notre Dame for a spot in the championship game, while on the other side, Ohio State will play against Texas with a ticket to the title game on the line. Both games will be highly anticipated, though neither semifinal matchup is what fans and analysts expected to see.

Regardless, we’ve still got some college football powerhouse schools left in the CFP, and a lot of eyes will be on the Cotton Bowl in Arlington, Texas at AT&T Stadium. And yes, Texas basically gets a home game for the semifinal, even though Austin, Texas (Home of the Longhorns) is still a three and a half hour drive from Arlington (Home of the Dallas Cowboys).

It only took me a couple of seconds to look up the drive time on Google Maps, and I only bring that up because the graphics department over at the Ohio State athletic department would have benefited from doing a little research of their own.

They are currently getting trolled online because based upon the imaging they made ahead of the Cotton Bowl… they might think the game is being played in Arizona:

Ahh yes. Arlington, Texas… home of the Saguaro Cactus.

In case you didn’t catch my sarcasm there, Dallas is about as opposite of the desert as it gets. You wouldn’t know that based upon Ohio State’s graphic which includes the “holy trinity” of desert scenery: cacti, tumbleweeds, and sand. If you wanted to see a saguaro cacti, you would just need to drive a little ways to the west, as this social media user explained:

“If you want to see those iconic cactus while in Dallas, you’ll need to take a little drive to the west. By little drive, I mean about 1000 miles. Roughly the same distance between Columbus, Ohio and Bangor, Maine.”

Love when the internet comes together to bash a mistake that some social media intern in Ohio made.

That guy above was really just trying to be helpful. I’ve included the real, harsh meme social media discourse below. Someone at Ohio State is going to double check where saguaro cacti grow next time around:
