Yellowstone is back.
The hit Paramount Network series returns this Sunday for the first of six episodes that will finally wrap up Season 5, which has been on a break since January of 2023 when the first half finished airing.
It’s honestly felt like forever, and I’m really excited to see how the show finally ends, but considering superstar Kevin Costner, who plays John Dutton, likely won’t be featured or on the show, it’s going to be really interesting to see how they wrap it up.
Today, fan-favorite Dutton, Kayce, who is played by Luke Grimes, by CBS Mornings to talk about his character and what fans can expect from his storyline in the next six episodes. He told the hosts that he “was a mess” the first time he read the finale, calling it “profound, powerful, happy and sad”:
“For me personally, when I read it, I mean, I was a mess. You know, it’s powerful, it’s profound, it’s sad, it’s happy, it’s all the things.
But I think, anytime you’ve spent a lot of time with a show, you want the ending to sort of wrap everything up in a way that that satisfies you and make you feel like you didn’t waste your time.
I feel like that’s what this finale does… don’t look away, buckle up, it’s really fast. It’s only six episodes, and a lot happens, you know. It starts high and ends higher.”
Well now I’m even more excited… he also explained that this will be the most “decisive” Kayce has ever been, and he finally makes real choices about his place in the Dutton Ranch and family:
“This whole arc that he’s had, these five seasons he’s been between a rock and a hard place, he doesn’t know where he belongs, he doesn’t know what the right choice is.
You know, trying to pick a path, he finally has to pick one and so we see a very decisive Kayce this season, which is nice.”
Of course, he’ll miss his Yellowstone family and filming with people he’s become really close to over the last seven years. The show has become a cultural phenomenon, and Luke perfectly summer up the whole experience as “epic”:
“Man, I think Taylor has like a sixth sense for people. He knows how to pick the people, pick the cast. It was just a great group to begin with, it’s a great project, it ended up becoming this big huge cultural thing that we were all a part of.
We shot it for seven years in a beautiful place, I mean, all of the elements were there. Epic is the only word I can think of to describe the whole experience.”
It will certainly be sad to see the show come to a close, but there’s been rumors that some of the leads like Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton), Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler) and even Luke might be part of some other spinoff or show, so hopefully we might get some new version where we see them continue on too.
Either way, I can’t wait for this Sunday, and to finally see what the future of the gorgeous Dutton Ranch will be. I’ll also be thrilled to see Kayce back on my TV screen, but I digress…
