Garth Brooks speaks.
After a two-week hiatus, the country music icon returned to his weekly Inside Studio G series last night, and briefly addressed what he called “the elephant in the room.” Of course, the music world was shook to learn that a lawsuit was filed against him last week by a former hair and makeup artist, alleging some disturbing accusations of sexual assault and rape. Garth has vehemently denied all of the allegations, and preemptively filed lawsuit last month alleging that he is being extorted for millions of dollars.
The allegations in the lawsuit are descriptive and detailed, claiming various instances of sexual assault and harassment which culminated in a violent and traumatic rape in 2019. Garth, on the other hand, released a statement calling the allegations “behavior that I am incapable of,” while also making it known that he refuses to pay “hush money” for something he didn’t do.
Garth Brooks’ wife, country music star Trisha Yearwood, has effectively stood by her man in light of these accusations, recently posting a photo of her and Garth with the caption “love one another.”
Needless to say, it’s quite a mess that will get sorted out in court. It goes without saying that the accusations levied against Garth are abhorrent, and in the event that they are true, he should be punished to the full extent of law, and even be charged criminally as well (Jane Roe has filed a civil case against Garth, which seeks monetary damages). However, in the even that a court finds these accusations to be false, Garth’s reputation will forever be tarnished. Hopefully, the truth will be revealed and justice will prevail.
To open the show last night, Garth told fans:
“A lot’s happened in the last two weeks. Let’s address the elephant in the room, shall we?”
He went on to say that it’s going to be a long, drawn out process, and everyone should essentially relax and buckle up:
“This thing is on. It’s gonna happen. And people are telling me it could be up to two years, so my suggestion is, we all take a deep breath, we all just kind of settle in and let’s hold hands and take the trip together, ok?
Because it is something that you cannot talk about. That’s all we can say about it. So for those who joined us tonight to hear about that, I bid you a wonderful rest of your night because that’s the last we can say about.”
Is it just me… or… is that one of the weirdest way to address this? I mean, a very “Garth” way to address this, I’d expect nothing less, but to say “let’s all hold hands and take this trip together?” We’re talking about a rape trial, G…
I guess we’ll see…
Garth went on to talk about Habit for Humanity and his weekend in Las Vegas, and I assume that’s the last we’ll hear of this for the rest of the near future.
