A lot to unpack with this situation…
Of course by now you’ve probably heard, but a lawsuit was filed yesterday against Garth Brooks in the Superior Court of Los Angeles accusing the country singer of sexual assault and rape.
The complaint, which was filed by a former makeup artist for Garth and his wife Trisha Yearwood who is identified only as Jane Roe, claims that the alleged victim was struggling financially, so Garth began giving her extra work.
But in 2019, she alleges that she arrived at Brooks’ house to do his hair and makeup but was greeted by a naked Garth walking out of the shower with an erect penis. She says he forced her to touch him and encouraged her to perform oral sex, telling her that he had fantasized about this moment and wanted to “come all over her face,” especially while she wore her glasses.
She claims was naturally horrified and said no, but continued to work for him, as she needed the money.
Then, she alleges that she accompanied Garth on a trip to Los Angeles for a GRAMMY tribute to Sam Moore, where the singer booked only one hotel room and violently raped her.
The complaint is extremely graphic and disturbing, and alleges that the plaintiff has text messages, emails and audio recordings to support her claims.
And one of those claims is that Garth allegedly expressed interest in having a threesome with the plaintiff and his wife, Trisha Yearwood.
According to the complaint, the woman alleges that Garth made “repeated remarks about having a threesome” with her and “Ms. Yearwood,” and that Trisha overheard these comments on at least one occasion:
“Brooks’ increased frequency of his sexually charged conversations included his repeated remarks about having a threesome with his wife, Ms. Yearwood, in which he suggested that Ms. Roe would be the third person, which Ms. Roe believes Brooks’ wife overheard on at least one occasion.”
While Trisha Yearwood hasn’t commented on the lawsuit, Garth has strongly denied the allegations.
He filed a lawsuit in a Mississippi court last month seeking an injunction to stop Roe from making these claims against him. And after the complaint was filed yesterday, Garth issued a statement through his publicist claiming that he was being extorted for “millions of dollars.”
“For the last two months, I have been hassled to no end with threats, lies, and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars. It has been like having a loaded gun waved in my face.
Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I am admitting to behavior I am incapable of – ugly acts no human should ever do to another.
We filed suit against this person nearly a month ago to speak out against extortion and defamation of character. We filed it anonymously for the sake of families on both sides.
I want to play music tonight. I want to continue our good deeds doing forward. It breaks my heart these wonderful things are in question now. I trust the system, I do not fear the truth, and I am not the man they have painted me to be.”
The singer returned to the stage last night for his residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, tweeting after the show that he “really needed” to get back on stage:
If there was ever a night that I really needed this, TONIGHT was that night! Thank you for my life!!!!! love, g pic.twitter.com/q6FFLrJO0a
