For the first time since 2011, the Philadelphia Phillies are NL East champions.
It’s been a long time coming for this team, who suffered through some really awful seasons following the departure of the 2008 squad that won the World Series. I’ve been a Phillies fan for nearly my entire life and I almost get emotional watching a group of guys connect with the city nearly as much as Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins, Cole Hamels, and Carlos Ruiz did during that magical run of the late 2000’s.
For the past few seasons, the “Dancing On My Own” remix has been the team’s theme song and truthfully I don’t really understand it or like it but this year they’ve got a playlist of remixes from local Philly DJ trio The Armentani Brothers to pump up the clubhouse parties.
Obviously there’s a lot of songs I don’t recognize because I rarely if ever listen to pop music these days but I did notice a decent amount of country music, or at least artists in the country genre.
Trey Lewis’ “Dicked Down In Dallas” remains on the list and naturally Shaboozey’s “Bar Song” is there along with (unsurprisingly) a lot of Morgan Wallen, but right at the bottom of the 53 song playlist you can see Zach Bryan’s “American Nights” got remixed with “Lovefool” by the Cardigans, which is pretty cool, though it would be cooler without the other song thrown in…
“Dixieland Delight”, “Stick Season”, and Tom Petty’s “Won’t Back Down” also made the list, which gives us enough country/country adjacent songs to make this Phillies fan happy. Sure, it would have been cool to get some CWG, Sierra Ferrell, or heck even Megan Moroney in there, but hey, we’ll take what we can get.

Fingers crossed the Phils can secure the NL’s best record and home field advantage for the postseason run… I’m trying not to be overly excited for what this season may turn out to be but man it’s hard when we’ve got this roster…
John Kruk, what do you have to say?
