I’M WALKIN’ HERE!
If you’ve ever heard that phrase and wondered what it’s from, it actually originated from the 1969 film Midnight Cowboy. The famous Dustin Hoffman yells it to a taxi as he’s walking through a cross walk in what has become the movie’s most iconic scene.
And I bring it up only because that’s what I imagine these geese were saying as they held up traffic on this rural Ohio road they decided to cross. They must have forget that they can, you know… fly, because they were all hoofing it (or rather webbed-feeting it) in a single file line.
Seeing that by itself would be quite shocking, but the goose parade becomes that much more mesmerizing when the video pans over to reveal at least a hundred of the birds also following along in line. One of nature’s most interesting phenomenons is geese having the intelligence to fly in the “V-formation,” but honestly, this video of at least a hundred of them walking in a single file line takes the cake for me.
And the footage begs the question… where are all of those geese going? And why aren’t they just flying to where they need to go? It’s known that geese don’t mind to walk long distances (and they often walk in a straight line), but all I’ll say is that if I were one of those geese, I’d be saying, “Hey guys, it’s awfully crowded, and we’re holding up traffic. Let’s speed this thing up.”
But I guess I’m forgetting that geese – for the most part – are the “Karens” of the animal kingdom. They do whatever they want, their viciously mean, and they’ll happily go about their day as if the world revolves around them.
That is why they don’t mind making cars wait on them while they cross the street… when they could just as easily take flight and save everyone involved some time.
“Slowed down for geese crossing. Wasn’t expecting to turn and see THAT many.”
